With the German summer offensive of 1942, “Operation Blue”, Hitler hoped to force a decision on the southern front. In an attempt to complete a large-scale encirclement of the Lower Don, the city of Rostov became the natural center of operations. The initial breach of the outer city defenses had been made by panzers of the III and LVII corps, but the city’s center was the battlefield for assault parties and not armored formations. To make matters worse, the NKVD garrison, familiar with street-fighting techniques, was determined to defend Rostov to the last bullet.

Russians did not have much luck. Pz IV entered turn 3. Their MGs kept jamming, About the only thing their 6 SAN sniper achieved was killing my sniper. Russians conceded turn 8 with only 1 squad, 1 LMG and 1 building left.

Used Russian balance. Germans could not get their AFV on until Turn 8 and by then they had suffered a good old fashioned "diced" defeat.

IIFT. Long, grinding house to house fight that will test attacker and defender alike.

Nice scenario but I didnt manage as a German to bring my tank on board and also made big mistakes with my guns but still after I got the trucks in play I didnt really know what to do with the guns. So I lost although I managed to kill (almost?) every Russian I engaged in CC. It was close but in the end I would have needed at least one more turn.

If one sets up the defence better spread out and falls back the shark doesn´t always have the time to eat all the little fishes..

Another Russian win eked out in the MPh of the last player turn, when a squad AMed into a MH Building and the German only managed to Pin it. There could possibly have been a second squad surviving a Melee that wasn't resolved.
One ATR did its job of Immobilising the AFV early on with DI, while the two ht were also immobilised so the Guns couldn't stay in the game. As others mentioned, skulking from most German FP was de rigeur, especially the 9-2 & HMG combo. Maintaining '?' in CC or fighting back were equally (in)effective at various times. Never got a MOL check, Booby Traps never came into play, but the Sniper was fairly active breaking the odd MMC (and immobilising one of the ht), and eliminating the German Sniper.
One tempting counterattack was predictably foolish and nearly cost me dearly, it's just so hard to resist going adjacent to an AFV for a MOL attack and Street Fighting! Maybe next time. :-)
A good exercise in tactics; my opponent and I are planning to replay this with swapped sides.

I defended as the Russian vs Tobias as the attacker. I traded ground for time, but by Turn 4 Tobias was already halfway across the board. Since I had some good terrain, I decided to delay another turn, and that really cost me. A 'boxcars' on an NMC cost me the leader which was to rally the forward squads, and Commissar didn't get across the street to rally them either, due to a shot I didn't see. The result was three squads (30% of my force) captured. At that point I no longer had enough forces to hold the line, which Tobias exploited by getting around me. I was unable to get my remaining units back to the victory buildings, game over by turn 8. Good dice on my fire attacks was nice but the key appears to be avoiding his massed firepower, as that will wear you down sooner or later. Like the other review said, the Russian has to stay focused on skulking away and thereby run down the game clock.

Once again this scenario went down to the wire, with the Russians holding out with one (possibly two) squads.

Good game, but with 10 turns a pragmatic German should have the edge. I had a chance to inflict some casualties on Turn 1, but rolled for NE on both opportunities and then couldn't hold any one position longer than a single turn.

I marched down city in a way similar to the way the Germans seemed to have done it historically. Had a critical hit on one of his mmg's by artillery which was crucial. Never did get AFV on board. Seems that part of Russian strategy is really to skulk, skulk, skulk and do a fighting w/drawal.
