The position held by SS-Panzer-Division 12 “Hitlerjugend” in the village of Rots threatened the deep flank of the 3rd Canadian’s advance against Caen. To remove this threat, the Canadians ordered the 46th Royal Marine Commandos, supported by the 10th Canadian Armoured Brigade, to take the village and clear their flank. The Canadians’ first encounter with the fanatic SS was about to begin.Attacker: Canadian (46 Royal Marine Commando; 8th Canadian Infantry Brigade; 10th Canadian Armoured Regiment)

2023-06-17 | (A) Dave Mareske | vs | Robert Piepho | Canadian win | After taking out the last panther with a PIAT, the Canadians were able to close in on the last building with some lucky smoke rolls and overwhelming numbers to break and eliminate the last two defenders in the victory building.

2021-10-26 | (A) Igor Luckyanov | vs | Anton Sulin | Canadian win (VASL Log)
2021-10-21 | (D) Craig Renier | vs | Craig N | Canadian win | German poor choices aided by terrible dice gave the Canadians an easy victory. On Turn 2 the Canadians had already captured on multi hex building as well as building R2 and were in easy position to force the Germans out of two more buildings. The German player failed his personal MC with box cars and moved his Tiger into building R2 hex with a Canadian MMC and 9-2 SMC. The Canadians passed the Reaction Fire and wrecked the Tiger. The Germans conceded before Turn 2 was over.

2021-10-08 | (A) Igor Stolyarenko | vs | Gleb Paskevich | German (SS) win (VASL Log) | Much historicity of fierce battles!
2021-10-05 | (D) Jonathan Plott | vs | Gabe | German (SS) win (VASL Log) | S62 Reaper's Harvest - Gabe's freedom loving Canadians attacking against Jon's evil German occupiers. The advantage waxed and waned for both sides, with the fight decided by the final DR in the final Close Combat Phase. By the barest of margins, the Canadians came up just a bit short, with a Melee continuing in the last VC building. Great scenario with ordnance and AFV's...highly recommended for SK players wanting some tank and gun action!
2020-12-13 | (D) Tony Fermendzin | vs | Bill Burt | German (SS) win | The Canadian's main attack came from the east and the German gun was able to take out the two Sherman V tanks on the first turn. The German's dice were hot and the Canadians could never get their assault going.
2020-11-22 | (A) Chris Anthony | vs | Jim Burt | Canadian win
2020-10-09 | (A) Dave Mareske | vs | Craig Renier | German (SS) win
2020-10-09 | (D) Craig Renier | vs | Dave Mareske | German (SS) win | The Canadians made steady advance, but the German gun was able to kill two enemy tanks before they could make much impact. When the German gun was overrun, the Panther MA and CMG broke and the Panther in melee, it looked grim for the SS troops. But the Panther won the CC and repaired the MA. With only one leader and a few good order squads remaining, the Canadians did not have enough force remaining to capture the last building.
2020-09-27 | (D) Craig Renier | vs | Bill Burt | German (SS) win | German accurate fire on the first turn eliminated one Firefly and kept the Canadians at bay for the first 3 turns. The Canadians were finally able to make progress Turn 4 and on but it was too little too late.
2020-09-06 | (A) Macari Samuel | vs | Seb Prof | Canadian win
2020-05-15 | (D) Macari Samuel | vs | O Ramaille | Canadian win | The only positive point of this game is to have learned a little more about the playing of the tanks. The Canadian took full advantage of the hazardous placement of German. Defeat without appeal.
2020-05-15 | (A) O Ramaille | vs | Macari Samuel | Canadian win | Against the SS defending in line, the Canadians took the brutal approach. The Shermans headed directly to the SS units in stone buildings to freeze them and survived a few missed PF opportunities, The Canadian infantry assaulted them easily in close combat thus opening the way to the center of the town. The SS units were completely overwhelmed by the strong Canadian units helped by smoke cover. The Panther was unable to provide efficient firepower to counter the Canuck advance. And the AT gun was able to destroy a Firefly before being destroyed in CC. It was already over in turn 4 before the arrival of the last German reinforcement.
2020-05-01 | (A) Kevin Sanders | vs | Derek Dunn | German (SS) win | Good game - brutal Cnd luck in all aspects. SS set up deep def in town. Initial push saw losses on CNDs. Got 3 shots at PZV Miss tanks at 9, miss piatt at 4 and 9 (results in broken SW). 3 squads and leader held up SW by lone AT gun at range 1 (walked into the HIP) for 3+ turns....just too much going wrong and a good SS defense.
2020-03-02 | (A) John Smith | vs | Scott | Canadian win | Canadians lost a Sherman the first MPh it moved onto the board, but revealed the AT gun on the flank early, so Canadians pounced on them with a flanking platoon and took them out in CC after in the first CC phase. After that the game was fairly even until the Waffen SS center started to collapse and a sneaky Canuk squad got off a side Piat shot on the deadly Panther taking it out. In the end the German's just couldn't stave off the Canadian firepower.
2019-09-07 | (D) Vilis Pavulans | vs | Tom Rodwell | Canadian win
2019-09-07 | (A) Tom Rodwell | vs | Vilis Pavulans | Canadian win | Vilis and I played S62 Reaper’s Harvest as a training scenario to consolidate Vilis’s understanding of the armour rules. He took the SS and I the mixed Canadian and British RM Cdo force with the panzer grenadiers set up in Rots in a linear forward defence. The Commonwealth attacked with one platoon in the west and two in the centre with both thrusts supported by a Sherman V. The assault, despite initial casualties worked well and when the Vilis’s Panther, having destroyed one Sherman V, was knocked out by a very lucky critical hit from a PIAT we called it a Commonwealth victory.
2019-09-07 | (A) Tom Rodwell | vs | Vilis | Canadian win | Vilis and I used this as a training scenario to familiarise ourselves with the armour rules. It's an excellent scenario. In this playing the mixed Canadian and Royal Marine force was able to quickly take out a half squad on the left flank of the linear German position. This in combination with a smoke facilitated assault across the road in the centre allowed the whole SS left flank to be destroyed in detail. The AT gun proved to be sub-optimally placed to engage the Canadian armour, revealing its presence a little prematurely. The entry of the German Panther took out one Sherman but while maneuvering to avoid the attention of the other two succumbed to an incredibly lucky critical hit from a PIAT. At which point Vilis graciously conceded. It was a great game - albeit the distribution of lucky dice rolls was very one-sided - and a good learning tool. Highly recommended.
2019-06-22 | (D) David Wiesenhahn | vs | German (SS) win
2019-03-05 | (A) O Ramaille | vs | Canadian win | Second play of this scenario. The SS defense was setup in a line along the road and the Canadians rushed forward in the center. The Sherman tanks were not able to provide smoke cover and thus the German defensive fire was more efficient. A SS squad closed on a tank and destroyed it with a panzerfaust. The Canadians finally took hold in the center of the town. A Panther rushed on the right and fought both a Firefly and a Sherman with success. However, the Panther was damaged and immobilized and useless to support infantry in the town. The German AT gun did not prevent the Canadian advance. And inevitably, the Canadians captured the buildings. A Canadian success.
2019-03-04 | (A) O Ramaille | vs | Canadian win | The SS defended in a line along the road and saw the whole Canadian force attack in the center with the help of a pair of Shermans. A panzerfaust destroyed one but the German defense was overwhelmed with massive fire attack. The Canadians quickly reached the center of the town. And after cleaning some pocket resistances, it was over. A panther tried to surprise the Sherman. But the duel was won by the allies. A crushing defeat for the SS.
2018-08-01 | (A) David Garvin | vs | Kevin Boles | German (SS) win | What a great game. In spite of some early hot shooting by Kevin, I was able to get my guys into the objective area with a turn to go (and my tanks littering the fields as wrecks). But alas, Kevin's last ditch defensive fire was on target and my Canucks failed to withstand the heat. Some oddities: his AT Gun shot to get acquisition on my tank and ended up critically hitting it. Then it fell to my advancing fire infantry. His Panther ruled the fields over my 2 Shermans and Firefly. My smoke only got one hit on his guys, but it was sufficient. I would easily play this game again. |
