Ken tells me that he is originally from Saskatchewan (IIRC) so he is actually Canadian, like me. Were both tired of Russian versus German scenarios, so we choose J108 Break For Hungary. I get the Partisan side by DR. The balance provision for the Partisan is in effect by Tournament SR, so the Croats are missing the 7-0 leader, leaving them with two leaders. For once, my opponent agrees to play using the IIFT. Kens set up is a lot of ?, so I have no real idea which way he will head. I position my MMG and light MTR in the center of the Partisan set up area. I defend both flanks with about the same number of troops and SW, although I realized later that I had a bit more firepower on my left side. Most of the troops are in reverse woods positions to avoid Croation Prep Fire. I put one HS on a level two position just to strip concealment from the Croats when they move. I forgot about the Ammunition Shortage; otherwise I probably would have put the MMG elsewhere. I used the HIP to put one 337 almost adjacent to the Croat line and I put a 447 and LMG in a level one building position on the Partisan left. Kens first shot of the game comes from his light MTR and targets the level two HS. On a 1MC, the HS boxcars out of the game. The first few turns were a bit tedious because Ken didnt want to give me easy negative DRM shots and I was trying to keep concealment and fall back slowly. Not surprisingly, we both lose our LMGs gradually. The 337 HIP squad only breaks a half squad, but the HS never rallies. I see that the bulk of the Croats are heading towards hill 538, so I shift several 337 squads from my left side to my right, as well as the light MTR and the MMG. I think that things arent too bad around turn five because I have a fair number of squads covering the hill area, including the MTR and MMG. The dice had other thoughts, however. The light MTR gets two shots from its level two perch and then breaks. The MMG breaks soon after that. Its manning 337 is casualty reduced on four shot. At one point, I had a 337 take a 3 down two, and a 1.5 down two shot against a 9-2 leader running in open ground; I get morale checks against the leader and the leader passes both of them and continues on his merry way. A key defender cowers. I reposition what I have left but it is not enough to stop Ken from exiting the required number of points.
