Norman "D"	FNF game pitting my 5.5 SS squads against a company of US troops led by a 10-2 leader who have 6.5 turns to capture seven buildings. It looks like a mismatch but the bocage is a great equaliser as it slows movement and negates US firepower. Tony's guys came at me from opposite sides of the board. They managed to outflank the Germans defending the north east bocage. One SS squad was encircled in bocage with half of the US OB including the 10-2 bearing down on it. Four DRs of greater than or equal to 10 allowed it to survive. That squad tied up a lot of manpower and eventually won a CC to survive to the end of the game. Elsewhere the Americans were having similar problems rolling low enough to harm the German defenders and Tony conceded on turn 6 when it was clear that he didn't have the necessary manpower to expel the SS from the three buildings that they still held. Norman "D"	Friday Night Fight My Germans conceded in the American turn 6 prep fire when the 7-0 wielding a bazooka finally got a hit on the church and took out the half-squad defending it with a k/2 result. This left me with a solitary hs w lmg and 9-1 leader to hold off the americans over two turns of movement. Early turns were bloody with casualties just dying and not breaking. A 658 in P8 kia'd, the american sniper eliminated by the triggered german sniper. Turn four there was a collapse in the german defence as several key units broke allowing exploitation of the resulting holes. (VASL Log)	Paul Legg
Hoppers and Hardy	Game ended turn 5 (of 6) for a German win holding 6 of 7 multi-location buildings (5 needed). Ami/FFI partisan dice were cold all game as their losses and breaks mounted. The outcome was sealed with the FB42 breaking a number of partisans near the airfield over a couple of turns. A very fun scenario we both enjoyed.	Houlie

Tolvajärvi Tussle	First recorded playing of this scenario which is a surprise as the action presents a large scale infantry only affair with some interesting player choices to be made on where the reinforcements can enter. We certainly enjoyed playing it. I feared as the Russians I would miss the early war Commissar(s) (NA by SSR) but leadership is more generous than normal with 6 leaders, 4 of them with a -1 modifier, across 32 mainly 1st Line squads. The Finns are a mixed including both AEs and Conscripts in the reinforcements, 34 squads total. Their LMGs are quite brittle being B10 in snow conditions. Most of the action centred around the Board 62 village, the Finns applying pressure throughout the game. The Russians though found a safe Rally point and were thus able to recycle units and avoided CC where a Finn ambush looked likely as HtH was available by SSR. I certainly had the better of the dice in the end game and held on to enough of the village to secure the win (Finns controlling all Board R and 62 buildings but neither Bridge)	Simonstan

Grebbe End	Snipers went wild on both sides. The Dutch fell back in relatively good order as one of the tin cans went down to a lmg. The German 9-1 leader and MG stack cleared out the 9-2 led foxhole guarding the center road. With just two turns left the 9-2 leader had rallied 3 squads E5 and a stack in G2 was holding that flank. Then the sniper struck again, KIAing the 9-2 leader, which caused the entire stack to break from the LLMC. The Dutch had one last gasp when a broken squad in the village self-rallied with a 2, but a lone squad could not stop 5 units from taking the needed victory buildings.	Guru Bob
Twilight's Last Gleaming	Fun game. Don't expect more than one or two shots from the SturmTiger, but still fun. American push in the center. German back defense. Very high morale rolls for the German and a 10 Intensive Fire for the Panzer IVJ sealed the game. Despite not rolling good for smokes, the American could enter the village and attack in CC. The Borders are Burning	Wow, what a different scenario, and we had lots of fun. As the Russians, I had a short way to go but a long time to get there. Sadly, the terrain, deep snow, low Russian ELR, impressive Finnish units, a 7 Finnish SAN, and a wilderness of wire made it very challenging. I broke the scenario into thirds: break the first line of resistance and get past the initial fortifications; clear the road and get everyone down it in good order; exit for the win. 5 turns, 5 turns, 4 turns. My main push was on the Board 5 woods road. I sent about a third of my force to sweep the Board 2 hill. Things were going pretty well most of the game. However, my 10-2 kill stack (shooting from Board 5) failed to clear the Board 2 heights, but my troops there managed to trudge up snowy slopes and take them under fire (I even created two fanatic squads and two heroes). The 10-2 died to a casualty 1MC and his two squads conscripted in despair. My attack on Board 5 made slow but steady progress, and I focused on keeping my tanks as safe as possible. When we finally made close contact at the roadblock, dice went my way, in both advancing fire and close combat, and the Finns were forced to retreat. In the second phase, it was a bit of picking up stragglers and trying to press the Fins back, clearing road hexes. This was very tedious, but it's a 14 turn game. There were a bunch of tiny scenarios taking place across the boards, with 1-2 Finns vs. 3-6 Russians of diminishing quality. An ill-fated local Finnish counter-attack cost them two precious squads, and now we started to move with some purpose. The last part was setting up for the final dash. The victorious heroes from Board 2 managed to keep the Finns from occupying the exit hexes, or the back row, so I had a good shot. At the start of Turn 14 I had the forces to exit within range, and was only facing two Finnish half-squads. But a DM Finnish full squad self-rallied and now I'd have some proper RFP to run through. The tanks and all the trucks got off the board ok (the last ATR shot missed a truck) but a squad-and-a-half of conscript passengers broke in their trucks, as they exited. The 9-1, hero, conscript squad, and fanatic 4-5-8 with a stack of prisoners (having cleared all of Board 2 and then fallen on the Finnish flank around Tun 11) then tried to move off. Only the hero made it past the 1MC, for no EVP. The broken and pinned remnants meant my last two units would have to pay overstacking penalties in the exit hex and thus didn't have MF to exit. Stupid deep snow. I exited 42 VP, 3 shy. Less than the 9-1 + Fanatic, or even less than the 1.5 conscript squads that broke as their truck exited. It couldn't have been any closer. Carrier Assault on Poplar Ridge	A poor setup let the Germans get some early hits in and the Brits were never able to capitalize on firepower against the spread out defenders. Several berserkers led to Melees, and the Carriers did what they could to influence the board, but the decision to go for overruns instead of abandoning their vehicles may have been the wrong choice. It feels like this scenario should be reduced by half a turn and the Brits should set up and move first.	Jobbo_Fett

Morgan's Stand	German lost a tank very early in the game, and also the 150 MA malfunctioned. Probably the German player was a little too cautios and lost the chance to push harder in the middle of the village. I placed pretty well my 2 tanks and got good shots with them, Very balanced scenario tough. Fun to play and replay since the groups may enter in different times, depending on die roll.	anoiawargames
Dew of Death	Tough game for the Japanese. WP missed the target and didn't affect any Chinese units. It blocked some shots, but otherwise was more of a hindrance to the Japanese as they moved forward. My 3-3-7 Chinese managed to get a lot of good hits early against the attacking Japanese and the mutual eliminations in Hand to Hand took out more Japanese manpower. By Turn 4, it was over as the Japanese had lost too many points and couldn't meet the victory conditions.	grumblejones
Strangers in a Strange Land	Used a German defense taken from a match played on Youtube. Each French leader deployed an additional squad in the initial rally phase and the south part of the entry area was flooded with hs. The 9-2 leader with MMG's moved behind the hill and was in position to fire by turn 2. The tanks moved forward and stayed in motion. The tanks kept moving and were flanking the victory building by turn 3. The German MMG and lmg in the victory building held on heroically, but the swarms of half squads got to the building before the German reinforcements. The last German resistance ended on turn 7, and the French mopped up on turn 8.	Guru Bob

The Yelnya Bridge	FNF game. My SS concentrated everything around the bridge area and swept forward in a blizzard of snake eyes and failed TK attempts by the defenders. By the end of German turn two, the SS were across the stream in force and most of the Russian defenders were broken, at which point David conceded. I don't think that the Russians did much wrong here but they were well and truly diced.	Dougban

Knock On the Door	Interesting scenario. Dan and I played it to the end with the Japanese counterattack nearly securing the win. At game end, the Japanese had retaken 5 buildings, but needed 6 for the win. So the Australians managed to get the win.	grumblejones

Textbook Attack	I set up a French set-up with mortars protecting the flanks on board 44 and the rest in the village. I had three levels of fortified locations in the two-story building with the HMG on level 2. The artillery battered the house and broke all the units, but they hunkered down in place and eventually the 9-1 leader took control of the HMG for a few turns. I used a let's play attack to base the German attack upon, which attacked up both flanks and the middle. Eventually two guns on the hill broke and the artillery pulled double red chits. The mortar hs on the south flank held up the advance for quite a few turns as it retreated to the gully. On the other flank the HMG kept the infantry at bay and a AT gun in AA7 took out a Stug as it lumbered by towards the village. By turn 8, the Germans were breaking into the village and the French units were starting to break, when the other AT gun swiveled and rolled snake eyes to take out another Stug in the rear as it was moving on the two-story building. This gave the French the 30 CVP that they needed for the victory.	Guru Bob

Kampfgruppe at Karachev	An interesting scenario. Russians have a constricted approach, and need to press the Germans. But the Germans have a couple of tools to deal this with push. High quality troops on both sides allow for good maneuver options, especially as the Germans don't have PF yet. I even got to place Russian infantry smoke for the first time ever! The 3 options for victory with a CVP cap also make this interesting. Phil had a good set up to make the restricted approach very painful. I was worried about being able to make progress until almost the entire eastern flank in the woods side of the village broke. Despite having proper rout options, the 9-1 didn't rally with 4 tries. I got lucky with some very aggressive maneuver and was able to bag many prisoners for the CVP win. Tight.	ubertripp
Wons Enough	An interesting and very exciting scenario, would be one of the best except that it's slightly pro-Dutch - Germans need balance or perhaps an extra turn. The Germans have a powerful force, but the complicated victory conditions require them to clear the Dutch from on/near a lengthy stretch of road whilst not losing as many casualty VPs as the Dutch. I sent a small force to take the buildings on Board 9a, whilst most of my troops conducted a "left hook" through the woods towards the hill. This gave me some cover, but proved to be a long way round, with my opponent conducting a skilful fighting withdrawal. I also quickly found that the German armoured cars are very vulnerable to Dutch ATRs and the mortar, so had to keep these back out of the way for much of the game, which slowed me further. In the end I got close, but not close enough to clear the final building at the top of board 10a. Still a very enjoyable game though.	Andy_Bagley

Hakkaa Paalle	See final log for disposition of troops and final Sniper 1 shot to in effect end the scenario. As the Finns, my plan was to run my 10-1 leader, 3x squads, and 1x LMGs as quickly as possible west end of the board in an effort to create problems for the exiting Russians. Secondarily, I would take a small but mighty group of halvsies to follow the Russian advance to pick up stragglers and keep pushing the Russians. My other leader with 3x squads and 3x LMGs would try to make it to the small woods and use the LMGs to kill Russians as they tried to flee. My plan worked well to start, save that the group (first mentioned) was never really able to get into the fight because the Russians were too fast, and when they got into the fight, their only LMG malf'd. My leader with 3x squads and 3x LMGs however as well as the policing up halvsies were able to raise the CVP to 9 (vs. 1 for Russians). The Russians left 2x 628s and his 10-2 leader on the north end in an effort to kill my halvsie Finns in the open, however, on the last turn after a 12+1 shot, a sniper killed his 10-2 leader, breaking the two squads from resulting LL2MC, thus causing Russians to capitulate (score was then 13-1 CVP). Overall, a very chess-like scenario and fun. It feels balanced as there will be a lot of 1 down 2 shots meaning the dice can probably equally swing the scenario, but with the scenario also being 10 turns it creates a few different strategies. Busted at Bulson	Hard to have a good opinion on this one after the French simply ran away with it. Multiple criticals and low rolls eliminated the Panzer IVs instantly and several of the Pz IIa's. With most of the turns done, the Germans suffered immobilizations on their two remaining tanks and the game was over by default when the French successfully exited 1 singular tank (with 6 others still on the field). Point of Junction	Fun, hard fought game. The difference came down to a Turn 1 Crit hit by the Spanish Mortar on the Russian Mortar. Spaniards ended the game with 20 points vs. 15 for the Russians.	grumblejones

Kampfkommando	The US swung a heavy force on their right side and then pushed down the road. The Germans were able to spring a couple of traps with HIP units, but generally the Americans were slowed down sufficiently to come up short. The defense did not keep any units off board and really only one squad was out of position. The fortified building was placed in the ground floor of the steeple location of the three hex church. Fun scenario even though it is a static defense for the Germans. Springing HIP units is always fun!	dmareske
Not Apt to Drag Feet	I had a wonderful time with this scenario. My troppers pushed Tom back but lacked enough time to finish it off. Difficulties and risks which both sides must overcome to succeed. My M4's produced a good amount of SM5 smoke failed to bring any SMOKE or WP with them. Tom's Marders controlled the long highway the entire game dominating that position making use movement very difficult	SGT Mac
Back To School	I converted the 8-1 to a 10-0 commissar and set him up with a 4-5-8 and the HMG in the corner of the schoolhouse that directly faces the road running down from the bridge to the north, effectively cutting the map in two. I set up small forces to the east and west but put the main force in and adjacent to the schoolhouse, not wanting to get cut off from the exit zone by expected rapid maneuvering by my opponent. When deciding on a Russian setup, you will want to carefully count out his opening MPh possibilities; you might be surprised how far the German can come in the first turn with his abundance of leadership and liberal use of double-time. We played this one twice on the same day. In the first one, my opponent came on the gully side but began to realize just how difficult crossing that gully is, and that combined with my incredible rolling on the IFT, sniper activation and MCs led to a concession when it was clear that not enough EVPs could be garnered. We started again, with my opponent coming strong on my right flank this time (his left) but the dice rolling and the result was much the same. As someone else said, the Russians are perhaps deceptively strong in this one, based on these two playings. Still, such a small force is inherently brittle, and if a couple of squads break in the initial clash the Russians could easily be looking at a quick defeat against this massive German assault wave. Put Up Your Dukes	We flipped sides as the other club members were still engaged in a game. The Brits forced their way up the left flank, took out the two guns, but a couple of squads held them up for about three turns. A few Brits sneaked through but were not confident to take on the building without help. Once help arrived it was about one turn too late. A lone leader and a squad in Melee held on for control of the building.	dmareske

The 11th Hour	Tight on time but Germans progress well til T4 when the dice Gods left them floundering with some really effective Russian fire and the German Sniper refusing to activate. Two of the three Victory buildings controlled but the third proved too much with the time available. Close enough to justify a replay in due course.	Tigernaut

Last Train to Leningrad	A little rash to begin with as the Russian T26 Platoon was eliminated in T1 when they approached the German 50AT a little too closely as it went into a near perfect Rate Tear destroying all three leaving two in flames. Another KV found itself bogged risking a debries hex, ultimately becoming mired, so not an auspicious start. A methodical infantry slog and purchased Russian 5SAN eventually battled through whittling the German defenders down. Their 50AT proved heroic until succumbing to a boxcars in German T4, both AC's falling in the same turn, one to a Sniper the other to an LMG TH roll, prompting the Germans to finally concede as losses mounted. Not Much of a Soldier	A 21-21 VP tie giving Germans the win. U.S. pressed hard negating all but 2 German building VP. However, Shermans got neutralized by mtr CH and Psk removing 16 potential EVP. A PzIV MA 6,6 prevented a smoke shot that would have allowed a clear rout for 2x squads that ended up surrendering (8 EVP). In the end, the U.S. ran the gauntlet and got number of units off, but came up just one VP short. Super tight!	Houlie
Confusion Reigns	Ugh how do you loose 12-2 dog. Don't follow the script. Well I did send units down both flanks but not enough with my main attack going down the middle. Just as my attack was beginning to gain steam Tom's sniper took my 9-2, LLMC created a Sniper which jumped across the board and took the 8-1. LLMC created a Sniper which landed one hex from the 7-0, breaking the mortar crew! Insult to injury! That said, Tom played his usual masterful game.	SGT Mac

Flanking the Maginot Line	We called it a draw at the end of Day 5 as the French started taking some outsized losses stubbornly trying to hold as much ground as possible. This campaign was an interesting mix of units, abilities, and sight lines. The woods offer so much protection for both sides that you, as the French, must really try to hold on for as long as possible and make the Germans bleed at every turn. There are a few things about the map that hurt lines of sight for both sides, but I found it a little annoying that there were so many blind hexes. On the positive side of the campaigns, it feels like they did a lot to try and balance it between both sides. There are some interesting choices for both sides in terms of units purchases, and overall it doesnt feel like one side gets a type of unit or thing that the other doesnt. On the opposite side of the coin, there are some issues with the objective and rules text, including typos, a lack of examples and clarity. We had plenty of ups and downs, and we had one idle day only. My opponent generated something like 3 heroes on day 5 which speaks to itself about how well he was rolling!	Jobbo_Fett

Fat Sparrows Atop Skyline Drive	The Germans started spread out in the middle leaving the boards near each edge empty. The Americans were able to force the Germans out of the two centre building. The German reinforcement took the edge buildings. The Germans started to pressure the Americans from the side. They Germans were able to cross the road and start forcing the American back from the road. The Shermans finally arrived on turn 5 with the Germans retaking the 2 building that the Americans had captured earlier. By the end of the German turn 6 two Shermans had been eliminated - one with a capture Bazooka. At this point the Americans conceded.	slunts

The Grim Reaper's Lair	Not much happening on Turn 1, other than I think I eliminated all Jap dummy stacks (one by wasting an opp fire from my kill stack). Turn 2 these men move up to what would turn out to be a sneakily good view into all church locations. But it also saw me stupidly advance a whole stack into a well-placed mine across the street from the church. These men wouldn't leave the hex until the last turn. An HIP gun popped up guarding the SE approach to the church, while another sprang up in the south, only to malf and breakdown for good. The Amis started dishing out some punishment, trading a HS for two Jap squads. Turn 3 was rather static, as the Amis looked for ways to soften up the defense, the only casualties being a Jap HS and LMG blasted to bits by my kill stack. Turn 4 saw the Amis make some inroads. In the south, aided by their reinforcement and the northern gun crew being knocked out of position, they were able to cross the street. The northern battle remained a stalemate, while the only casualty for the turn was an Ami HS. Turn 5 just saw the Japs lose a crew, as the Ami push from the S and SE ground forward. Turn 6 saw the Amis make it into the SW church, causing the Japs to lose a 9-1 and squad. Turn 7 was deadly, as the Japs clung to the SW church. They lost the other ART for good, but the last one sprung up behind the northern church. This one would prove instrumental in the closing minutes. The Amis burnt out a FT and lost a BAZ, a hero, and two squads. The Japs for their part lost two crews, a HS, and an 8-0. So it would come down to the silly endgame rush on the last turn. I figured the northern church was unattainable, as he could simply self-break and rout into either the cellar and/or the upper level. That meant going for the cemetery. The west side was out as it was guarded by the HMG, so it would all come down to charging through the SE gate. Perhaps had I started by surge in the turn before I would've stood a chance. Perhaps had I started by surge in the turn before I would've stood a chance but, while they avoided casualties, the Amis were only able to get 1.5 squads through the gauntlet, thus coming up short. Probably favoring the Japs somewhat with all their heavy weaponry and sneakiness, but to Scott's credit he had a very good defense. As another opponent of mine mentioned, the smaller scenarios in SF seem decent for the most part. Unfortunately the larger ones that I've played are all complete dogs, and I've heard the same about the CGs. Nevertheless, this game at least was enjoyable.	buser333

One Spanish Hero	Fun scenario. Spanish ARTY did it's thing and broke up my Russians pretty good. I would MALF an MMG and my HMG at critical moments. The Spanish Hero was shot dead on Turn 4, but Dan would create another Hero that took the boys on it for a crushing defeat of the Russians and the capture of 5 full squads and all three bunkers.	grumblejones
