2021-12-27 | (D) Andy Bagley | vs | Peter Dunn | | British win | This seems to be a scenario that rewards patience. Things started very badly for the Brits: I lost one AT gun and the 76mm mortar to good German shooting early, then both my HMG and the other AT Gun malf'ed, leaving me without heavy weapons (with only one German tank destroyed) by the end of Turn 2! Moreover, the Germans were probing all three bridges, and had a kill stack on level 2 which prevented my shifting forces between them.
My luck changed abruptly on Turn 3 however, when my remaining AT Gun repaired, then took out two German tanks while another malf'ed its MA. German infantry got across the western bridges but was halted by the spreading blaze which robbed it of cover, while British firepower took its toll. Eventually the PzkwIV tried crashing into the large building by the western bridge to overrun a British squad there, It avoided falling through the floor, but unfortunately created a British hero which then - with the squad - took out the tank in CC! So with just one functioning tank left and infantry unable to get across the bridges, the Germans conceded at the end of their turn 6. |
2021-11-27 | (D) Chris Turner | vs | Derek Cox | | German win | Some appalling dice rolls coupled with poor initial placement meant that my British defence had collapsed after only 3 - 4 turns of this scenario. |
2021-11-19 | (A) Andy Goldin | vs | Stephen Worrel | | German win | Played with the British balance, which provided Stephen the ability to 'volley fire' his ATRs, scoring two kills. A hidden ATG killed a third tank.
My first attempt to cross the canal on the eastern-most bridge (which I had chosen as my 'schwerpunkt') was rebuffed, with each of my armor-assault infantry teams breaking and running. After a couple turns of killing British tanks and whittling away the infantry with my HMG and a separate kill stack of both MMGs, I got a foothold in the church. Good fire attacks gave me fire superiority and the British couldn't stay on the line. Stephen shrewdly used the smoke to reposition his forces and strike out at my Germans for advances into close combat, which resulted in the untimely demise of at least a couple of my squads.
A crazy weather roll on British turn 6 resulted in Heavy Winds, negating smoke. I was concerned about my ability to get across the canal until I realized that my HMG in the upper level of 20P9 could range basically everything and... went on a rate tear, shredding the squads he set up to interdict my movement across the canal. No longer able to contest my crossing, the Brits attempted to make a stand in 23D6. Heavy German fire drove back three squad equivalents which were unable to rally and were soon surrounded and eliminated for failure to rout.
With the Germans now greatly outnumbering the British on the north side of the canal, Stephen conceded. Total losses were 10.5 squads, 4 vehicles and the 9-1 on the British side and 6 squads and 3 vehicles and the 9-1 and a 7-0 for the Germans. |

2021-05-01 | (A) David Ford | vs | British | | German win | It was tough going for the attackers. However, the British obligingly managed to have their vehicles wrecked at the bridge approaches, allowing the Germans some cover when moving across the canal. The turning point was when the blaze spread throughout the building that housed the main British resistance; forcing him to displace. |

2020-11-16 | (D) Kevin Duval | vs | Dwayne Duval | | British win | Used British balance. All Germans units stormed across west bridge & swarmed Brits. Once committed to one corner all the remaining defenders concentrated on containing & slugging it out at close range & CC. Luck, in the end, won the day for British. |
2020-11-16 | (A) Dwayne Duval | vs | Kevin Duval | | British win | Back and forth all the way. And too close to determine. Played to the end, but the Brits had 2 AFV left to end up with 6.5 squad equivalents vs the German 6 squad equivalents. Very fun scenario. |
2020-11-11 | (A) Paul Works | vs | Dan Best | | German win | As the German, I concentrated most of my forces to attack the bridge on my right. I did place two Pz IIIs and several squads in the center to interdict and inhibit any attempted British movement to the bridge being assaulted. I used my Pz IV to place smoke just beside the right bridge and the mild breeze had smoke covering my attack. Dan had a strong defense over on that side, with one of his AT guns covering the bridge. the smoke limited its effectiveness for a turn, but then it ended up destroying two of my tanks. The remaining smoke and wrecks allowed multiple German stacks to move across and break up the defending British infantry. By turn 6, I had established a strong force across the canal, had killed the AT gun crew, and in position to defend against any British counter-attack. Fun scenario. |

2020-02-29 | (D) Shane Pask | vs | | | German win | Looking forward to some kills with the 2 pdr AT guns but neither fired a shot (one malfed 1st shot, 1 crew broke before firing). Others then stepped up with1 kill and 1 immobilised on the canal by ATR, 1 kill + 1 shock by Mk VI, 1 CH by Stokes (then an 11 for no effect). Factory caught fire and remaining poms were trapped between flames and Germans. When the church finally faltered, poms conceded. Germans up by 5 squad equivalents. |
2018-10-26 | (D) Jeff B | vs | Phil Wentworth | | British win | Not knowing where the attack would focus, I setup a fairly even defense. My opponent decided to push for the western bridge, with only a MG nest in the upper levels of the P9 building to limit my force's ability to relocate. This proved to be very effective as almost everybody that tried to get across the P-column street died or broke. My AT gun in the Y6 building managed to knock out a tank and UK another before himself being blown to bits by a CH. Not a small consolation, the UK would later turn into a kill. I relocated one of the Mark VIs to provide some additional protection to the western bridge, but otherwise I kept my vehicles concealed and safe. My mortar setup in EE5 and would prove to be a large thorn in the Germans' side working as a jack-of-all-trades, bopping infantry along the hedgerow, knocking out tanks, and even providing some defensive smoke. If he only had a minimum range less than 6 he very likely would have lasted the whole game. The German HMG broke down for good on Turn 3, but they still had an MMG, and by that time had also amassed enough troops along the hedgerow to make my attempted reinforcements across the street a decidedly deadly prospect. I lost both my Mark IV and the mortar on Turn 4, but by that time the Germans were down to one mobile tank, the smoke-capable Panzer IVD, who would continue to place its dreaded smoke throughout the game. I believe we had three gusts rolls during the game, so the fires really spread. Thankfully for me nothing but vehicle wrecks impeded my FL capability until late in the game. These proved invaluable, as did my other 3 RoF AT gun, who switched tasks to an amazingly effective job of pounding the German infantry with its 2 HE-equivalent AP rounds. The Germans first managed to sneak across a sole squad on Turn 5. Another 2.5 would follow on Turn 7, but with only one mobile tank and 4.5 GO squads left they stood virtually no chance against the Brit's 8.5 squads/3 vehicles so threw in the towel. Pretty fun bridge-crossing scenario. |

2013-12-18 | (A) Jeff T | vs | Jerry | | German win | I bum rushed Jerry on the bridge furthest from the church. He initially broke about 8 squads and I only had a toe hold over on his side, but I pushed armor across when my infantry cover broke his AT gun crew and the flood gates opened. I got over in too much strength and despite a rapidly spreading blaze in the large factory building, he couldn't counterattack with enough force. German win. |
2013-10-26 | (A) John Van Natta | vs | Jeff T. | | British win | I just couldn't get going in this one and conceded early. I got some good rolls, but paid for it twice with his sniper killing 2 of my leaders. I failed to use my smoke assets and I split my attack leaving neither force strong enough to force a bridge. Jeff's defense was stout and his play was solid. The combination was too much to overcome. |
2013-10-26 | (D) Jeff T | vs | Ripper | | British win | John and I got together to play this old chestnut. He played it probably 20 years ago and I have had it on my to-play list for years. Unfortunately, it wasn't one of our better games. The tension never really built up as he quickly got in position at the canal's edge and then peppered the church with shots from his Panzers and kill stacks. A lucky smoke shot disrupted his kill stack for a turn and my sniper killed two of the German leaders in the back. He got good rolls, but couldn't create a breach in my forces enough to push across. He tried both sides of the map and it diluted his force. If he had pushed everything across near the church with his overwatch kill stack and a tank suppressing the church he may have had better success. As it was, he ran into my AT guns and they dispatched 3 of the 5 Panzers. His Panzer IV was immobilized and he didn't have enough left to seriously challenge the my British. Fun scenario, just not a great session. |
