Overview:
The blitzkrieg in the West had begun. German forces were pouring into France at breakneck speeds. Bridges on the Moselle had been captured undamaged and the advance elements of the 34th infantry Division started to cross as soon as the obstacles installed on the bridges had been removed. One such bridge lay on the outskirts of the French town of Aessan. The job of holding this key objective was given to specially trained and equipped glider troops. As they arrived, they were joined by Vorausabteilung A which had brought up a 37mm anti-tank gun. At midday the 4th Spahis Regiment, supported by Hotchkiss H-35 tanks, counterattacked the bridge at Aessan.Attacker: French (4ème Régiment de Spahis with Armor support)
Defender: German (Luftlande Kommando Hedderich and Voraus Abteilung A, Infanterie Division 34)

2023-12-01 | (A) Mark Thompson | vs | Kedge | German win | Albany 2023 Round 2. German 9-2/548/LMG in F3 and 548/LMG in J3 significantly delayed French armor assault down West edge road and flanking infantry force entering on North edge. French eventually flushed out/eliminated AT gun and made modest progress using VBM freeze, but attritted forces were not enough to make final thrust at Bridge, and the French conceded on Turn 6. In retrospect, the flanking force from the North edge must be more aggressive, possibly including the tanks.
2023-10-23 | (D) Dwayne Duval | vs | Kevin Duval | A | French win
2023-10-23 | (A) Kevin Duval | vs | Dwayne Duval | A | French win | French managed to line up AFV platoon onto bridge & approach while the Germans malfunctioned their AT Gun before eliminating it with repair attempt. This allowed for slow & steady progress against the defenses for eventual win with luck snakes from AFV at critical time in Turn 6. |
2023-06-02 | (D) Marc Grad | vs | Eric Zagdan-Gross | German win | French entered map from the center of the West edge and made an aggressive thrust with their armor which cutoff a fourth of the German infantry from the bridge. The French infantry following up were tormented for several turns by the German MMG which was placed in a foxhole on the large hill north of the bridge. The French were making steady progress early in the game, assisted by a successful civilian interrogation role which revealed the HIP German Pak36. Also early on several German squads were routed by small arms fire. The H35’s southwest of the bridge pushed towards the river but were stopped when the lead tank was immobilized by AT mines. To the East of the bridge several French squads made a flanking move but were held up by a German squad in a foxhole. Probably what saved the Germans was the poor French IFT rolls throughout the game which really hindered the otherwise well planned French attack. The French knocked out the MMG across the river with a critical and though they got close to the bridge the AT gun took out another H35 and the Germans made most of their morale rolls. French conceded at the end of turn 6.
2023-03-06 | (A) Gerard G | vs | Camille Goureau | German win | The french were handicaped by the loss of their 9-2 leader in a 1RF firelane ! I was unable to bring enough MMC power to really challenge the bridge control from the germans .. The radioless H35s were a poor help.
2023-03-06 | (D) Camille Garek | vs | Gerard Vandervelden | German win | French late on the pace. They lost too many troops passing the first road and in the minefield.
2022-09-04 | (D) Dave Mareske | vs | Glen Taylor | German win | Omaha Tournament
2022-02-09 | (A) Craig Renier | vs | Dave Mareske | German win
2022-02-09 | (D) Dave Mareske | vs | Craig Renier | German win | The French moved cautiously and the German MMG with 9-2 ldr up on the hill had a couple ROF rips that slowed down that cautious advance even further. The French never got onto the bridge, leaving many of their force dead and dying in the street.
2022-02-04 | (A) Craig Renier | vs | Jim Bishop | German win (VASL Log) | The French attacked the center of the German defense, moving cautiously using terrain and AFVs for cover. At the end of Turn 3, the French has crossed the North-South road in force with only one broken half squad, putting significant pressure on the German defense. However, the German force was still intact. On Turn 4, one French AFV was well out of position which necessitating using a full turn to reposition in order to continue the assault. While the French were able to break one German MMC under fire and one due to a sniper, the German attacks were finally able to have an effect, breaking three and a half squads. More troubling was a German snake eyes in the French CCPh eliminating a half squad and creating a 8-0 SMC followed by snake eyes in the German CCP eliminating the other half squad and creating a 8-1 SMC. On Turns 5, the French pressed forward using Armored OVR against a German half squad in the road and continuing onto the bridge, the column stopping in front of the roadblock on the I3/I4 hexside. The French sniper broke a MMC which was covering the left, giving the French an opening. The French were able to break a sizable number of German MMCs and the German 9-2 SMC. Both sides suffered losses with the decision still in the air. On Turn 6, the French had great success with PF and maneuvered to remove rout paths for the bulk of the German forces. Unfortunately, they stumbled into the German minefield breaking a SMC and pinning a MMC. The Germans rallied, to include a MMC self rally which created another 8-1 SMC, broke more French units, wrecked a French AFV and eliminated another AFV crew that was forced to abandon an AFV. With the road blocked by units in the road and a minimum of 16 FP with the 9-2 SMC covering the approach, the French saw no hope of attaining the VCs and conceded at the beginning of Turn 7.
2021-07-19 | (D) Dwayne Duval | vs | Kevin Duval | German win | Used French balance. The French assault made early progress but the separated radioless AFV cost them two turns where both AFV could not move up to support the infantry, allowing the Germans to keep possession of the bridge for the win.
2021-06-18 | (D) Paul Works | vs | James Ferrell | French win
2021-04-01 | (A) wayne baumber | vs | Joel | French win | Solid battle for the bridge game. French greatly helped by 3 HOB rolls, tow resulting in French heroes and the third resulting in the German MG nest leaving their foxholes and charging the bridge over open ground

2017-10-25 | (A) David Garvin | vs | Pete Maidhof | German win | I just could not pass my MCs in spite of my 8-level morale. Too often I would just break. And break often :) Very good and aggressive defense by Pete.

2017-08-11 | (D) Michael Rodgers | vs | David Garvin | German win | My first round game was A104 IN FRONT OF THE STORM with David Ginnard. My defence held tough and dished out some serious punishment in the early turns. I had the 9-2 leader up front. When a tank VBM occurred, the leader and squad where able to CC it to death. A turn later, they did it again to another tank. David conceded after four turns.

2017-05-30 | (D) David Garvin | vs | Jim Thompson | French win
2017-05-20 | (A) Allen Evenson | vs | Stuart Cooper | French win | French had some good luck when needed and I was able to flank both sides of defense in front of bridge. Also, had the balance and the 9-2 leader with a squad and a MMG rolled up the middle in the last two turns to neutralize the remaining defense. Fun game with a great opponent. CASLO 2017 Round 3

2017-03-05 | (A) Ian Morris | vs | Simon Staniforth | French win | Won Heroes trophy
2017-03-02 | (D) Ian Morris | vs | Pete Phillips | French win
2017-02-12 | (A) Jeff B | vs | Magnus Rimvall | German win | I never have much luck in bridge crossings and this was no exception. With one tank blown up by an ATM, one taken out by the AT Gun (after multiple attempts), and the last stuck in the woods, my Frenchies were on their own to try and storm the residual-lined bridge on the last turn. A HOB-created hero had a very short-lived existence, and the rest of my men fell like dominos. Very fun scenario.
2016-10-22 | (D) Martí Cabré | vs | David Huguet | German win | I could easily stop the French on the hamlet outskirts. A tank managed to cross the bridge and had to go back for lack of infantry support. The French attack was not strong enough to break the defense.
2016-05-27 | (D) patrick palma | vs | Toze Santos | German win
2016-04-24 | (D) Ron Garcia | vs | Darryl M. | German win
2015-12-06 | (A) Martí Cabré | vs | Andy Beaton | French win | My first units down the road were stopped by MG fire killing a leader. The rest of the units approached the bridge by the west to the stone houses. I used the tanks to freeze the defenders but one was wrecked by the AT on the other side of the river. Heavy French fire slowly broke the German defenders and allowed for closing and CC. After a steady advanced I reached the river but the other two tanks also fell to AT fire. Using a MG group to keep the Germans down, on the last turn there was only the AT gun in good order and I started crossing units through the bridge until the third one made it for the victory.
2015-12-06 | (D) Andy Beaton | vs | Marti Cabre | French win | German defenders took out the French armour but couldn't stand up to French machineguns. Losing my top leader to a sniper didn't help.
2015-02-07 | (D) Chuck Dye | vs | LarryZ | French win | ASL at Winter War
2014-11-15 | (D) Bill Brodie | vs | Neil Andrews | German win | It s not often I get to play the same scenarios three times. I have played this one three times, each time with a German win, but each time was great fun. This time I got to be the Germans, and the game came down to the last movement turn, where the pitifully few remaining Germans were able to put down just enough residual firepower on the bridge to break or pin every one of the squads or half squads the French tried to run across, preventing them from capturing the last victory hex. Hectic and exciting, with fortunes changing nearly every turn.
2014-08-01 | (A) Bill Brodie | vs | Neil Andrews | German win | Great game that came down to the last turn, French captured three of the four victory hexes, but was stopped by 2fp residual that pinned two MMC on the bridge!
2013-02-12 | (D) Ralph Shoukry | vs | Dennis | German win | Fun short scenario.
2011-01-05 | (A) Kevin Kiff | vs | Don Willes | French win | Excellent short scenario; an oldie but goodie! Actual playing time 3.1 Hrs.
2010-07-25 | (D) Aaron Sibley | vs | Joe Arthur | French win
2010-06-12 | (A) Mark McG | vs | Peter Palmer | French win | Peter lost this one misreading the setup instructions. Not really a good indication of the scenario balance, but a lesson in reading the setup instructions and remembering Plowed Fields are in effect.
2007-09-11 | (A) Bill Brodie | vs | Murray McCloskey | German win | A nail biter that come down to the last turn. This is a great scenario. I played it on a 3D map too.
2007-08-07 | (D) Bill Brodie | vs | John Shelton-Agar | German win | Tight and close, but bad luck cost John the game.
