2023-06-08 | (D) Jack Wilson | vs | Shaun Andrews | | British win | Shaun played an excellent game. Despite my many blunders, the game came down to the last turn where I had two CCs to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. Alas, the dice were not kind.
One bit of advice for the German player: be wary of leaving troops in OG and subject to possible OVR. |

2022-11-30 | (A) Mark Thompson | vs | Germans (Marc Grad) | | British win | The British cruiser tanks reached HD positions along the wall to the South of the village by Turn 2, knocked out the Pzkfw IV, and hemmed in the Pzkfw IIIs. Meanwhile, the MkII VBM-froze the German 9-1/4-6-8/LMG in R1 and a HS locked the 37AT in U1 in Melee, which allowed the British infantry to take 4 of 6 VC buildings by Turn 3. The Germans conceded in Turn 4 when their units in the remaining buildings broke under AFPH. The British were definitely blessed here, with one cruiser and the MKII surviving ATR-induced SHOCK/UK and poor German rolls on Street Fighting and CC Reaction DRs. Great scenario that forces both sides to attack and defend with combined arms. |
2022-10-29 | (D) wayne baumber | vs | Owen | | German win
2022-10-29 | (A) Owen Edwards | vs | wayne baumber | | German win | A close game, but the British infantry got too thin on the ground to hold what they had captured, so a German counterattack on T6 won back several buildings. The British tankers had a good day, though, destroying two German tanks and immobilizing the other. |
2022-05-22 | (D) Vic Lauterbach | vs | JM | | British win | The mark of a great scenario is that both players think their force is too weak to win! My 37L got two tanks before being overrun but Jim won the HD tank duel and got infantry around my left flank. I hoped to keep enough Tommies busy taking R5 and S6 that too few would get past the firelane along the R4-Q6 road and into S4, U5 and W4, but MCs didn't stop them. Both Melees went Jim's way and my last ditch attempts to retake W4 and R5 failed leaving him with six buildings. This one lived up to its classic status. |
2022-04-19 | (D) Chris Brooks | vs | Allen Martin | | German win | We did a rematch and switched sides. Things were dire for me as the defending Germans on turn 5 when the Brits took their 6th building. Thankfully I still had my ATR and two AFVs to place fire on two of the buildings and a nearby cruiser. 3 consecutive critical hits (!) turned the tide back in my favor and was able to retake the buildings. |
2022-04-13 | (A) Chris Brooks | vs | Allen Martin | | British win | Really enjoy this scenario - small footprint and a chance to explore combined arms. Made quite a few rules mistakes in this one, most notably using the LV hindrance to deny FFMO. At least it cut both ways! Germans made the mistake of having the gun too far forward. Still, came down to the very end and Brits needed some good shots to take the final building. |
2022-02-24 | (A) Rick Galli | vs | Paul Schorfheide | | German win
2021-04-04 | (D) Tripp Killin | vs | Phil Watkins | | German win | British advanced in good order, and took initial buildings without too much trouble. But they soon realized they hadn't brought enough ammo.
MAs started malf'ing, SW went quiet, and the British 9-1 took a sniper shot to the head.
Those losses combined with a resilient German defense made it too tough to take the last two buildings.
Very cool little scenario. I can see why it is so popular. |
2021-02-13 | (A) Ric Hammond | vs | Jim Aikens | | German win
2020-08-04 | (A) Raoul Duke | vs | JA | | British win | Unforgiving to the defense, I think. Quickly overran the PaK 36, then took up HD positions behind the walls and engaged the panzers. With positions under heavy fire and rout paths cut, Germans surrendered. |
2020-06-26 | (A) Andy Goldin | vs | Rich Domovic | | German win | HUMAN WAVE 2020. Good game against a challenging opponent. I had a tough loss early on of my 9-1 to his sniper and foolishly lost a squad by moving through residual FP. The placement of his ATG caught me by surprise but it malf'd on an intensive fire shot and was flushed out by my accompanying infantry. Rich cleverly maneuvered one of his tanks behind my infantry moving through the woods in the south. My attempt to flush him out with one of my tanks resulted in its loss. My desperate acts of going into CC against his tank and a couple of his front line half squads ended unsuccessfully. At that point I no longer had enough infantry and conceded. |
2020-06-26 | (A) David Garvin | vs | Eric Groo | | British win | For HUMAN WAVE |
2020-06-12 | (A) Andy Goldin | vs | Stephen Worrel | | British win | Stephen had a good defense which couldn't survive his poor rolling. His hidden ATG couldn't get a kill, malf'd, and was then mopped up by my infantry moving through the southern woods. The tankers in the British light tank earned their pay by sleeze-freezing German infantry while the British AFV MG firepower got good effects on their counterparts in the buildings. The tank Stephen sent to the north by its lonesome was sleeze-freezed by my light tank and then outflanked. An MA shot within the hex malf'd his gun and I later got a mobility kill when he attempted to escape. The crew did not survive my tank's MG fire. With his remaining infantry broken, I surrounded his tanks with British armor and it was over. |
2020-04-28 | (A) Dan Best | vs | Dave Mareske | | German win
2020-04-28 | (D) Dave Mareske | vs | Dan Best | | German win | What a riot of a game. Lots of back and forth. Came down to the last CC and the Brits needed to roll a 6 for the win...they rolled an 8. German's AT gun was in P8, but it had little affect on the game, but the crew won some CCs and ended up controlling one of the buildings. Anything can happen in a game of ASL. |
2020-04-23 | (D) Pascal Boileau | vs | Bruno Bonhomme | | German win | A tremendous scenario ! The British infantry did a good job but before the last turn all their AFV were destroyed. Therefore, the German troops helped by two tanks were able to recapture one building from the 6 conquered by the British forces and denied the victory to the allies in their last APh. Many thanks to Bruno for his helpful advices during the game. |
2020-04-15 | (D) David Ford | vs | Dan McGuire | | British win | Poorly placed AT gun was discovered by the Brits early on allowing their tanks an unhindered approach to the walls surrounding the town. After that British firepower took its toll and they captured the required amount of buildings to win |

2020-02-22 | (A) Christian Knudsen | vs | David Garvin | | British win | A new PB for malfing things for me! I malfed a A9's MA, the same tanks CMG, my mortar, my ATG, and the captured 37L ATG, plus a 7-0 that managed to CR itself not once but twice! But no complaints about luck, I managed to mess up David's guys defending in P4 with lucky shots, and got a few key morale check passes at the right times. The battle can be summed up with this anecdotal evidence: David's HIP ATG had unwisely knocked out one of my tanks, so I ran a squad over to kill it, which happens in CC. A turn later, the squad mans the ATG, and takes a shot at David's PzIV, which had survived 3 hits from 40mm AP up till now. Improbably, I roll a 3 and hit. I need a 7 to kill the tank through its rear armour. 11 - Ping! David's tank is ok, and his sniper proceeds to go off and kill my 9-1 and the HS it has been trying to rally for 3 rally phases. Great fun! |
2020-02-22 | (D) David Garvin | vs | Christian Knudsen | | British win | What a match. Had a bunch of long-odds shots go both ways. But not one Heat of Battle!
In the end, the Brits just kept pushing and held on in spite of a spirited German Counterattack. |
2020-02-02 | (A) Shane Pask | vs | | | German win | So many boxcars for the poms! 4 out of 5 MA malfèd and 1 BMG. Also Pz IV had no AP but 2 consecutive HEAT rounds for kills. Poms only had 3 buildings by last turn and mad dash for victory was thwarted when two squads were pinned short of their destinations. |

2019-05-31 | (D) Marco Pasquini | vs | Isella Stefano | | British win
2018-05-17 | (D) Louis Langdeau | vs | Lee M | | British win | I got completely trashed. First time out with serious amounts of armor, and it showed. I had some difficulty understanding what armor was able to do, and how it should be used. In that sense, at the very least, this was a very enlightening game. Lee rolled right over some troops I left behind a wall in the open, eating a good amount of my already sparse troops and completely collapsing my flank. I destroyed two of his five tanks on the way in with my concealed gun, but poor usage of my own armor soon after left me with only my 75*. After the rest of my squads broke on turn 4, it was over. I feel like I can see some of the ways that armor effects the game now, and will try to take that into consideration during a re-read of the rules. |
2018-01-26 | (A) Rich Weiley | vs | Joe Moro | | British win | CANCON 2018 - Second round |
2017-11-23 | (D) X von Marwitz | vs | Stephan Jacobi | | German win | After a couple of years I played this one again when one of my opponents proposed the scenario, once more as the defending Germans. Also in this second playing, the game was fun. In the early game, I was quite lucky to inflict some breaks on the British advancing on the northern flank. In the south, the Germans were more hard pressed, but the ATG managed to kill two tanks (one of them due to a very close and tricky but clear LOS) before being taken out by the British MTR. Around Turn 3, the British pressure mounted and my 1.5 squads and 8-0 in the central building were in dire straits: the 8-0 died due to fate, the 468+ATR was broken and the HS found it prudent to withdraw while still able to. Furthermore, the British had moved into a strong position in the south in the westernmost woods and behind the wall. In the north, however, I managed to keep a couple of British squads under DM that were stuck in the woods hexes on the board edge, which took out significant pressure from the British attack. I committed my tanks in German Turn 3, which cost each side one tank. French Turn 4 saw a limited armored attack by the French, which again cost each side one tank, so only one PzIII and the best British tank were left. However, the German infantry in the central building did recover and was reinforced. Despite being pushed back in the southern woods and a HS and the ATG being captured, ther Germans were still lodged in the buildings. A British HS poised to take one building had to pass a 1MC but rolled boxcars for Multiple Casualties. Another squad with ATR was broken. With only two movement phases remaining and numerous British units broken, my opponent conceded as the Germans were still in good positions and the remaining British would have had a tough time getting close to some of the buildings. Again, a fun playing. |

2015-05-09 | (D) Paolo Cariolato | vs | Luca Martini | | German win
2015-05-05 | (D) X von Marwitz | vs | Martin Mayers | | German win | I played the Germans in this one. What appears to be a simple small scenario turned out to be a very interesting one. My particular playing was extrodinary fun because it was full of drama and excitement for both sides involved. Streaks of good and bad dice, fate swinging this way and that way. Chess-like considerations, brain racking rules questions, Berserkers, Heroes, Leader Creation, MA Malfunction, Scrounged Wrecks, surviving crews, captured & spiked weapons and the Rain would have increased from Heavy to VERY EXTRA HEAVY had the rules covered that. When it was over, there was only one single British tank remaining of all vehicles. Just spectacular fun. My Germans won during CCPh of British turn 6 when one of my leaders ambushed and killed a British HS, so that they would be lacking one victory building for sure. Two other CCs were left unresolved. Spectacular fun. |
2015-02-15 | (D) Doug McMullen | vs | Joss Attridge | | German win | Excellent small combined arms scenario. Extraordinary how much the rain LV affects the results. |
2014-11-08 | (D) Lee Bray | vs | Wayne Baumber | | British win | This was an intense and exciting game played at IF14. It all started well with my first roll a double one and a a 1 KIA on a Birtish squad as they tried to cross the ploughed fields on my right. However there were too many of them and I had to abandon the wall line. In the left flank woods my 9-1 and a squad played a canny delaying game on the more numerous enemy until the end of the scenario. However, I had set my AT gun too far back (in the 17U5 building) and the action in the centre was touch and go, the advantage swinging from one side to the other after my tanks arrived to stabilise things. I thought I had the upper hand until a CH from the British 50mm mortar KIA'd a squad and accompanying leader, wiping out the centre of my resistance. In the end, the remaining squad couldn't cling on the and the Brits gained the buildings they need to win. A tense game and nice little scenario I'd play again as either side. |

2013-09-03 | (A) John Van Natta | vs | Jerry | | British win | I was very aggressive as the British, coming in heavy on his left flank and with two squads and a half squad on his right flank. The first shot of the game by my light mortar signalled the way the game would go for the Germans when I scored a critical hit on his squad behind the wall, breaking it. This unhinghed his right and allowed me quick access to the first building. I then eliminated the broken squad for failure to rout. On his left,I moved into the woods, brushed aside his picket squad, and came in across the plowed field, quickly breaking, surrounding and eliminating a squad for failure to rout, thereby taking two more buildings. Meanwhile, his 9-1 and a squad who had been in the middle building tried to retreat to secondary positions but were pinned in the street. My armor moved up equally aggressively and took up hull down positions on his right to meet his armor. On his left my tanks came around from behind and I quickly had his 3 tanks taking fire from all directions. By turn 3, he only had 2 squads and 2 tanks remaining so he conceded. My aggressiveness certainly paid off this time, although it could easily have been my undoing. The hindrance for the rain certainly helped me approach his positions more easily. This is a great little scenario. |
2013-03-02 | (A) Jonathan Davis | vs | Walter McWilliams | | British win | British moved aggressively, taking a lot of down one and two shots. Germans kept missing just off. |

2011-10-05 | (A) Bob Callen | vs | Phil Bradley | | German win | Good game. Spent too much time kibitzing with Phil in how to play the Germans, but I think he had fun learning some new stuff. 2010-03-14 | (D) Bob Callen | vs | Randy Rossi | | British win | Made a colossal turn 2 mistake, trying to get ambush and then withdraw against a CX squad with a concealed squad and 9-1 leader. No ambush, should have tried to keep concealment and WD at that point, chose to stay, got held in Melee and lost units to the copious reinforcements moving up through the woods line south of the village. I also used my tanks poorly -- simply miscalculated the MF needed to get to hull down status at the walls. This one was over fast. Still a great scenario though -- it's a must play. |
