The General Göring Regiment had alternated between being in action and at rest for the better part of September. Their march had taken them across the Dneiper River as part of Army Group Center. Most of the action they had seen in September though was on the receiving end of artillery fire. Organized mainly as a FlaK unit, the General Göring Regiment did have a Rifle Battalion which was assigned to the 11th Panzer Division. It was units from the Rifle battalion that went on patrol while driving on Vyazivok only to be ambushed by Russian units including direct artillery fire.
Attacker: German (Rifle Company 1, General Göring Rifle Battalion)
A very good Russian placement delayed the Germans in their advance. The cannons chained precise shots and despite a game end to the advantage of the attackers, they missed a victory point to win. A good scenario.

Russian win
The Russian divided their troops in two packs. One north of the road with hidden guns in the brushes and the second one with infantry on the woods south of th road. The last gun was behind covering any movement towards the buildings. Russian cross-fire pinned the German infantry on the road with some success. The flanking elements were sliced down by the artillery guns. Finally, only one gun was silenced but the German attack was no more. A complete Russian victory.

After a disastrous start with my German broken almost everywhere the tide turned on turn 3 when i was able to break the gun on the hill and get a foothold on the hill with the reinforcement.
From there with the 9-2 was able to get into the village, and get the second gun from behind, alot of Russians where failing ELR on most of my shots and the defence deteriorated quickly.
A melee between 2 Russian and 2 Germnan squads with a 8-1 and the 9-2 lasted 2 complete turn.

Another VASSAL game with Miguel. I took the Germans and tried to storm the closest hill with a gun on it, but it took me five turns! to capture the gun and the single squad defending it, losing so many squads in the interim that I resigned as I had only two turns left and most of the work still to do.

German win
Rookie mistake of positioning two guns to far forward lead to them being taken early. I was able to attack the Russian forces in small packets and had favorable dice but still came down to next to last turn when I took the last gun and distroyed it.

Russian win
Russians got two key DRs, one that set up for Russian troops swarming and causing multiple squads to eliminate for failure to rout. The other was a rate tear that decimated one of two remaining stacks of Germans.
