"Semper Paratus" (Latin for "Always Ready") was the motto of the Royal Hamilton Light Infantry Regiment. Lieutenant C.P. J. Des Groseillers urged his straining men to push again. D Company had found a German 75mm antitank gun in the ruins of Oorderen. The breech had been hidden and the weapon left in the town center with some 200 rounds of ammunition. Well it just so happened that an enterprising scrounger had found this curious metal block. Lt. Des Groseillers did a little work. Now D Company had its own artillery. Everyone knew that C Company was going to be attacking the German bunker line north of the town. D Company would make sure that Jerry got back his 75mm shells. Perhaps in a slightly used condition. The Rileys looked out for their own.
Attacker: Canadian (Royal Hamilton Light Infantry Regiment)
Defender: German (Grenadier-Regiment 857, Infanterie-Division 346)
I had chances at CC against Pill Boxes early but didn't get the rolls. Should have used smoke more.

The Canadians depleted smoke on both the 51 MTR and captured 75L AT Gun in their first shots and initially bungled their close approach to the German's tight-knit bunker system, but eventually pushed through to engage in CC with each of the bunker occupants without having to cross the bunker CAs. The Germans severely bruised the Canadians with an effective fire lane and other residual and, although the Canadians prevailed in all CCs, several were achieved through a mutual misinterpretation of ambush rules in the Canadians favor, so a draw best captures this neat little scrap. A good primer on Pillboxes.

The Germans clustered the pillboxes against the pond in the center so there was no approach outside of any CA. The Canadian MTR and captured AT gun failed to get smoke on the first turn, making any approach hazardous. The attack was pressed on one side with the defenders having good luck. However, a few Canadians managed to get through the residual and FL so they could enter CC at favorable odds. Once one pillbox was breached, the remaining pillboxes had little recourse. We made a few mistakes on pillbox rules which may have swayed the result. Overall, well played by both sides. A fun short, albeit somewhat one sided scenario.

Close one down to the last bunker. Malf AT gun 1st shot and a few other breaks help the German. German won by retreating 1 squad out of LOS.

German pillboxes were clustered together to support one another. Captured Gun successfully smoked the main German position. The Canadians closed with the pillboxes on Turn 1 and 2 while losing only a 1/2 squad. By the end of Turn 2 - 4 pillboxes had fallen. On Turn 3 the final pillbox was taken for a Canadian win. Seems hard on the Germans.

German won on the final turn by rallying a conscript squad well out of the battle area. Came right to the end!

I set up in a circle with my pillboxes. Unfortunately I didn't pay enough attention to the covered arc's and left gaps for Jeff's Canadians to move right up to the boxes. I had a tough defender that lasted until the last CC attack by Jeff in the last turn.

The pillboxes were spread all out and despite not getting smoke the Canadians were able to kill the last of the Germans on the last melee.

German had all the pillboxes in the woods, not supporting each other. Canadian sent five squads and two leader on the flank attack. Canadians had taken four pillboxes in two turns.
I set up a circle of bunkers but Santiago dropped three rounds of smoke in two turns using the gun and mortar and I could not fire a single shot without less than a +2. Even then the pillboxes fell by CC one by one, but some infiltration results saw the Germans retaking a pillbox, the game ended on the last die roll as two pillboxes had not fallen but there was only one German broken squad in the map. It had to roll a 5 to autorally and win the scenario, and it rolled a 6. Fun game but tough for the Germans.

Canada Day quickie - tough to see how the Germans can stop the Canadians if the Canadians manage to get any smoke out of the gun and mortar. They didn't.

Switched sides and trid again - same result. I set up a ridiculous circle of bunkers all pointing in to be able to shoot people of the roofs, but once again, effective smoke left me helpless while the Canadians mopped up the bunkers. Nice Canada Day ending, though.
