2021-04-06 | (D) santiago jimenez | vs | Chris Anthony | | Draw | First day of the campaign game |
2020-11-12 | (A) Kevin Sanders | vs | Rob Brown | | British win | Great CG (basically a massive story telling session of awesome things - good and bad - happening). British numbers win the day but at a large cost in men and machines. Germans had several key "medal" winning groups/leaders/tanks....Brits managed a few fumbles but recovered. Went to the 2nd to last CG Date. Fun was had by both sides. |
2020-10-05 | (A) Macari Samuel | vs | O Ramaille | | German (SS) win | |
2020-10-05 | (D) O Ramaille | vs | Macari Samuel | | German (SS) win | Third and Fourth dates of the CG. British reinforcements were limited with only a depleted company and an OBA module. The German reinforced its defense with a company of Volksgrenadier and platoons of Panthers and Panzers IIIN.
The British attacked in the central section of Elst but lack artllery support (broken radio). The Germans counterattacked North and
pushed back the British infantry. In the center, Tigers and Panthers stopped the British advance with the help of the infantry. The British gained some meager terrain control in the South.
Without effective artillery support, lack of armor support and stalled positions, the British decided to resigne and withdraw from Elst. With yet two third of the map to cover, a strongly positioned German an random British reinforcements to come, it looked quite impossible for the British to accomplish their task. |
2020-07-03 | (D) O Ramaille | vs | Macari Samuel | | In progress | Second date of the CG. After a brutal German counterattack in the South eliminating quite half of a British company, the British tried to push along the main road where Tiger tanks lurked. Six Shermans were sent forward but none would make it, destroyed by either Tiger or Panther shots, German OBA or panzershreck. Worst, major Souper was caught in a orchard from failure to rout. Every British move forward was heavily paid in blood. An entire British infantry company disappeared in the process due to accurate German fire. In the end, The British were still able to progress a few hexes and capture a few buildings. |
2020-05-30 | (A) John Smith | vs | Scott | | British win | Gave the Germans the balance as this CG seems pretty pro-British, but the Brits pulled out a victory early on the last CG date. It was a tough slog for both sides. The British have the overwhelming numbers, the Germans have the cover (they will almost always be in +3 TEM), immunity to ELR (SS units), and access to Panthers (ugh), and good OBA. The Germans put up a good fight, but towards the end the British just have overwhelming infantry to stop. The German Panthers are a massive PITA. Don't bother spending many points on Shermans unless you find yourself with lots of extra points. The Panther will just obliterate your Shermans unless you get a lucky shot or two with a Firefly. The Panther vehicles notes are pretty accurate, historically it took 5 Shermans to take out every Panther. I had more luck taking down Panthers with CC and Piats than with all my Shermans combined. Brits should spend all their CPP on Inf Coy, and radios. Drops smoke and just drive straight up the road (optionally also come in from the south and connect up at the crossroads near row V). I would completely ignore the North side of the board as the Brits. On the last CG date you might consider buying some armor just to give mobility to support taking the steeple, or to keep any of his remaining panzers occupied. |
2020-05-27 | (A) O Ramaille | vs | Macari Samuel | | In progress | 23 Afternoon.
The elements of KG Knaust were strongly defending the main road to Elst. Some units were standing south of the road and quite none in the northern buildings. The British attacked in three almost equivalent groups along all the West edge. In the South, the British managed to capture some buildings despite some disorganization provoked by the German OBA and some Panther activity. But lacking good order troops, they were unable to exploit any further. In the center, the British advance was very slow with a determined defender. Two Shermans were destroyed in a single phase by a Panther. In the end, the firepower difference helped to get hold of the first buildings. In the North, the British ran across the grain and polders and were the first to enter the undefended buildings in front of some German squads. The German OBA was about to strike in the area when Kurt the radio operator failed to maintain contact and broke the radio. The British lost 4 Shermans from Panther shot an 4.5 squad equivalents. The German lost a Panther in CC and 2.5 squad equivalents. A specific mention to the last Panther which resisted two side hits from a Sherman before destroying it after a malfed MA immediately repaired. |
2018-12-01 | (A) O Ramaille | vs | | | British win | The German reinforcements were weak this morning, with only a lone Panzer IIIN. The British received a Fresh infantry company, a Sherman tank platoon and a 70+mmm OBA. It is time enough to end this stupid resistance around Elst and move forward to Arnhem. Things went wrong at first for the British with no radio contact or any battery access. Moreover, the German MMG in the steeple caused some casualties to the British troops advancing in the open. The Shermans managed to destroy a Tiger after losing two of their own. With the other Panzer destroyed by a PIAT, the Shermans could finally fire at the Steeple without much success. However, the British infantry took position near the church and concentrated enough fire to finally enter and control the location. The remnants of the German troops were too disorganized and scattered to prevent the British to move forward to Arnhem. But too much time was lost, and they will not arrive in time to help their brothers in arms.
A British victory with 32 VPs and a Tank. |
2018-11-25 | (A) O Ramaille | vs | | | British win | The British attacked back from both the West and North West of Elst trying to get back the lost territory. In his first move, Major Souper was instantly killed by critically accurate MMG fire. This event stalled the British attack in the West. In the North, new German reinforcements arrived and with the help of a Tiger tank surrounded the British troops. In the West, a hidden AT gun destroyed two Shermans before its crew had to rout away under heavy fire. The British gained some terrain in the West but also lost some of it in the North. The British are losing time. Next morning should be decisive. |
2018-11-24 | (A) O Ramaille | vs | | | In progress | The British decided to rest and wait for further reinforcements before attacking again. However, the Germans counter-attacked along the main road and inflicted heavy casualties among the British troops. Major Souper was cornered but destroyed a Tiger in close combat. The furious fight for Elst still goes on... |
2018-11-10 | (A) O Ramaille | vs | | | In progress | In the morning, the British attacked again in the South and in the center of Elst but were stopped by furious defense. Moreover, two Tigers came in reinforcements and caused heavy casualties among the British troops. A small British detachment bypassed the strong German defense in the center by walking North through the fields and arrived close to the steeple. In the center, the British troops tried to force their way as most of the Shermans were destroyed either by German panzers or a hidden AT gun. A PIAT critically hit and destroyed a Tiger and a Panther was immobilized in close combat. The German have lost terrain in the North but regain some territory in the South. With more than half of British force eliminated, it is a German tactical victory. |
2018-10-30 | (A) O Ramaille | vs | | | Draw | The British tried a pincer maneuver with part of the infantry advancing both North and South of Elst. The MG fire support and the Shermans attacked Elst following the main road. German artillery destroyed a Sherman and immobilized another, and disorganized the MG assault teams. In the South, Maj Souper ans his men had to deal with a Panther and was relieved when a Sherman Firefly destroyed it. The way was now open to advance towards Elst but fierce SS defensive fire delayed it. In the North, the German artillery wreaked havoc on the British troops who had to surrender when a Panther and German SS infantry appeared. The Panther then turned to fight the Shermans with success, destroying the Firefly and two other Shermans. Another Sherman trying to flank the Panther was destroyed by a Panzerschreck shot. Both sides suffered heavy casualties. The British advance was significant in the center and South. But the remaining Germans still hold the access to the town hall. Now waiting to the 24th of September in the morning. |
2018-10-23 | (D) Tom Abromaitis | vs | | | British win | Too many German tanks recalled with disabled MA. 3 of 'em! |
2016-12-21 | (D) Colin Emerson | vs | Michael Dorosh | | German (SS) win | My first Campaign game, played over 5 CG dates(1 day idle). First thing about the Elst map is that it seems like you are always shooting through 3-4 hindrances. Orchards and Grain make up a majority of the terrain. You will find some open LOS down the roads but those end up being the death traps.
On my very first turn I got to experience the Double Red chit OBA experience....bad rule.
It was even worse for my opponent later when he spends valuable Reinforcement Group points on OBA and gets the same result. House rule on the way for that garbage.
It's a tough slog for the Brits, advancing through the Polder is very time consuming and tough on tanks for getting bogged, mired, and then immobilized.
As the German I deployed as far forward as possible to make the Brits fight for every yard BUT be aware of deadly Prep fire attacks immediately from the Brits 36 FP groups or tanks shooting at you immediately.
My opponent had terrible leader generation in between CG dates while I seemed to have abundant leaders all over the map.
Interesting to play, plays like a story. Drawing areas of control/frontlines, buying more troops and formulating a new plan, trying to take out that same unit that caused you so much trouble the scenario before. So many cool aspects I'm definitely playing more CG

2016-12-21 | (A) Michael Dorosh | vs | Colin Emerson | | German (SS) win | Conceded on second last CG day. Lost lots of tanks, red-chitted my artillery in the last CG date without firing a shot, and rolled poorly on leadership generation - best leader after CG1 was an 8-1(!). Tough opponent, good defensive strategy, and lots of hindrances on the map make it hard to fight at range - 4-5-7 would normally stand off to fight 4-4-7s but very hard to do on this map, particularly with Panthers and Tigers running around. Started off poorly by trying to attack in the north where his reinforcements come on. Good way to ease back into HASL, but the Brit needs to have a clear plan in order to succeed. |
2016-08-16 | (D) JP Laurio | vs | Arttu | | British win | Lot of fun but seemed pro-British. |
2015-06-28 | (D) Gordon Jupp | vs | Ian Pollard | | British win | Good CG, spoilt by my rolling extremely bad dice in the 4th Scenario and losing all my tanks bar one to malfunctioned MA! |
