During the first three weeks of the war the Russian 14th Army drove Detachment Pennanen before it all the way to Hoyhenjarvi where the advance halted and the contenders dug in. The front would be quiet until February 24, when a Russian ski detachment commanded by Catian Znamenskiy infiltrated the thinly-held Finnish defenses in an attempt to cut the Finnish supply road. Nearby artillery and supply troops halted the Russians just short of their objective. The Russians turned to retreat only to find they had been cut off. Znamenskiy turned his now-decimated force and reached high ground at the Puurovaara fjeld. Surrounded by Finns, they were trapped in a motti. On February 26, the Russian 205th Rifle Regiment and a T-26 platoon from the 411th Separate Tank Battalion were tasked with breaking though to the beleaguered skiers. . . .previously released as "Skiing in Laponia"
Attacker: Russian (205th Rifle Regiment and 411th Separate Tank Battalion)
Really tense game only resolved on the last turn. In the end the Finnish HMG brought in the victory. Opponent played a good game also.
I have to say I liked the scenario. It's something different and a nice good puzzle to think about, especially as the Finnish player. I should also think that it offers some good replay value.

Deployed group A on board 4. Then drove straight into a minefield - and straight out again with no detonation. The other platoon then drove straight into the AT gun's hiding spot. One tank down then the AT gun malfs and disables. Broke the Finnish HMG squad - then when shot at again, it battle hardens and creates a hero. However this group still cannot make much difference and the Russians get past them to meet up with the skiers on turn 5 on board 19 (the Finns committed too many reinforcements on board 4). The Finnish rearguard only managed to break the wounded leader of the skiers. Once they were in the big woods, the Finns could not stop the reunion. Fun scenario that is a bit different with the separate board strategy.

Used Finn balance. Russians opted for Group A on board 4 & AFV managed to tie down Finns enough to link up the needed squads in the Woods west of the Hill.

Dan elected to hit me on Board 19. I had my Finns defending right on the west edge. The Russians entered under intense fire and three squads were lost and by Turn 3, it was over and a Finnish win. West edge defense was the key.

kept much force in reserve to react but had committed AT gun and AT mines on map on which his tanks did not deploy. Regardless, held russians in check on lower board and lost on top board by turn 6 (two turns after entry of russian ski patrol). Lots of options and suspense due to timing and location of arrival of ski patrol.

Finns slowed the Russians down, but being forced to divide forces and delay entry by a turn left the Finns vulnerable if anything went wrong

Nice opponent - duplicate report for personal record - Waited to enter with the Russians ski detachment until 5th turn as the Finns were doing a good defensive work on both boards - After the Russians reinforcement entered got a nice defensive fire phase that gave the upper hand to the Russians -

Russian win
My Finnish defense was too shallow and Will moved his Russian units perfectly to break my forward squads. As Finnish reinforcements take a whole turn to enter the board, I found myself with no other units to place on the map to avoid his units from linking from both sides of the map, so I conceded on Turn 2.
