2024-02-20 | (A) Jonathan Plott | vs | Steve B | | American win | A great scenario with high replay value given the unpredictability of both sides' reinforcements. |
2023-04-22 | (A) Craig Renier | vs | Jay Yanek | | American win | Balance was given to the Americans. The Germans were a little to cautious on Turn 2, waiting for the AFVs to get into position before attempting the assault across the road. This, combined with early American reinforcements closed pretty much any hope for a German victory. The Americans easily carried the day. |
2022-10-05 | (D) Jack Wilson | vs | Craig Renier | | German win | Ditto to what Craig has written. A well-played game on Craig's part. As mentioned, the game came down to nearly the last turn with the outcome hanging on a critical DR: that 8 +2 shot which melted down my best defensive hope. Pouring salt in the wound was the fact that in the previous PFPh I had an 8 -1 shot at that devious squad in the street but came up 'Maggie's drawers' !
Overall, a fun scenario and easy to see why it has appeared in three publications. |
2022-10-05 | (A) Craig Renier | vs | Jack Wilson | | German win | A hard fought battle that came down to the American final turn. The American defense was expertly laid down, with the American AFVs covering the avenues of approach. The Germans moved forward cautiously. Perhaps too much so. The Americans skulked successfully leaving few if any DefFire shots. Needing to move, the Germans mostly skipped Prep due to the low odds of success against concealed units. In an attempt to break the logjam, the German Stug moved hull down behind a wall facing an American AFV. In the American PrepFire, the AFV got the requisite Turret Hit and wrecked the Stug. German infantry advanced on the AFV which subsequently malfed its MA. As time ticked by, the Germans took out the two American AFVs with PFs, but took losses along the way. By Turn 6, the Germans were not making great progress other than being able to maneuver around the American North flank. On Turn 6, the Germans were finally able to make some significant headway while the Americans began to take heavy losses. The Germans pushed into the center building with one squad pinned in the road. The Americans skulked as best as possible and attempted to break that one German squad still in the road adjacent, but the Germans survived. This one squad was able to do what all the rest could not. With a 8+2 shot against two 9-1 leaders, the Germans successfully broke a leader and the last two half squads in the building. This marked the end of the American defense. The American reinforcements attempted a desperate charge across the bridge, but were mowed down by the German panzer. One final concealed squad hoped to advance into CC, win ambush and withdraw into a victory hex, but the Germans thwarted that plan by voluntarily breaking and routing away. |
2022-09-14 | (D) Jack Wilson | vs | Ken Walsh | | German win | A few devious DRs combined with multiple tactical errors added up to a thorough drubbing for my poor Americans. Ken had a sound, methodical attack that wore me down. Game would have come down to a last turn low odds (very low) desperation shenanigans. I saved Ken some time, and myself further misery, and resigned on T6.
Nevertheless, a well-balanced and compelling scenario. Worth a replay. |

2021-11-13 | (D) Craig Renier | vs | Chris Hofland | | American win | The American defense was anchored in building z6 with delaying forces arrayed forward. The German assault hit the American center and right. The defense was bolstered when German PzIII MA malfed and failed its repair attempt forcing a recall and the HT was wrecked behind a hedge from a M4A1 shot. As more reinforcements arrived, the delaying forces were overwhelmed. When the M4A1 on the left was wrecked and a supporting MMC broken, the left defense collapsed. The right was weakened when the M4A3 crew was shocked. The center continued to hold, hoping for reinforcements, which did not arrive. American reinforcements finally entered on Turn 6, but the road was covered by German guns, leaving no safe route for approach. Facing the brute force of the German 150mm, the Americans slowly withdrew across a stone wall into covering woods. Using Fire Lanes and Spray fire, the Americans were able to pin the advancing Germans preventing the attackers from entering CC. On the American final turn, a fortunate shot from the M4 broke a German stack covering the American withdrawal path across open ground securing the American win. A close game that came down to the final moments. |

2020-10-03 | (A) Rich Weiley | vs | Simon Shields | | German win | October Paddington Bearz - First face to face game at Bearz since March. Had the Germans in this. My forces entered in reverse order (ie Group 4 through one) so I felt a little restricted by a lack of infantry in the first couple of turns. My cause was helped by Simon disabling the M10's MA on its first shot and then a LOS that we both missed allowed the Brummbar to light up the Sherman on turn 2. US reinforcements entered on turn 3 but while the infantry got across the bridge it collapsed under the weight of the M8 HMC - so the US vehicles were never a big factor in the game. German vehicles didn't fair much better I malféd the MA's on the StuG, PZ IV, and the SPW (admittedly the last two came late in the game and had little bearing on the outcome). While I repaired the MA on the Stug it was stunned by infantry fire and then recalled by the Sniper. Speaking of which that US SAN of 5 was painful, at one stage Simon had four "1s" out of five sniper checks.
Morgan made his stand in the Z7 building and made quite a fight of it even managing to go heroic and battle harden to a 9-2, Eventually German numbers told however and on turn 6 I was finally managed to make a morale check stick and he was KIA'ed on the wound roll - with that and having only one surrounded squad left on board 10 Simon conceded. |

2020-05-25 | (D) Kermit Mullins | vs | Dan Best | | German win | Great scenario. My Americans made critical errors early and the Germans capitalized and would go on to win a heart breaker! |

2018-11-12 | (A) John Malaska | vs | Jeff Buser | | American win | Still learning how to utilize AFVs. Jeff gave me a schooling. (And IFE .... Yikes!!!) Did get to kill an M10 with a `Faust. |
2018-11-12 | (D) Jeff B | vs | John Malaska | | American win | The variability of the German turns of entry is interesting. The first wave was completely infantry and entered from the south/central edge. This was followed with more infantry and a StuG and the attack swung almost exclusively south. The first two turns were a bit costly as they lost two squads and their best leader, as well as leaving a trail of broken bodies in their wake. They did manage to eliminate an American squad and 8-1. Turn three saw them crumble the American defense in the south/central with help from the Brummbar and another StuG, though they did lose a StuG to the M10. Thankfully for the Americans their reinforcements arrived that turn. And, just as thankfully, the bridge held the weight of the M8. They would need a turn to continue meandering their way through the marsh though, which they were able to do with some WP assistance. One more turn would have probably been too late. Turn 4 was extremely rough for the Germans as they lost all their remaining AFVs (an AC, a Panzer, and the Brummbar to recall). Their last group of reinforcements was completely busted trying to break up the American stronghold in the north. They would be eliminated by NQ the next turn. It was obvious at this point that there would be no way to clear all the Americans, so Plan B was enacted to take the bridge. Without armor support and Americans swooping in from their backside this would be very difficult however. Any thoughts of continuing further were put to rest when the M8 found cannister which decimated a squad, and then blasted another 1.5 squads with HE (also placing two flames in the congested woods around the marsh, despite the wet conditions). While this was certainly very fun to play, the variability of the American reinforcements and the potential of the M8 to never even make it across the bridge make this scenario way too dicey for my regular tastes. |
