During the final withdrawal of German units from Finland, SS-Gebirgsjager-Regiments 11 and 12 were tasked with holding the Finns at bay. On the road from Tornio and Kemi, the Germans were withdrawing their troops interspersed with equipment-laden mules and carts. Elements of Jaeger Regiment 8 pursued the Germans along the road, while other Finnish units attempted exactly what the Germans feared most – an encirclement that would cut the Germans off from the road to safety.
An early Finnish push was successful in isolating and capturing an SS squad/Ldr/lmg complicating my fallback defense. The threat of the Flak 1/2track kept the woods road under SS control through turn 3. I was able to repostition it, along with the MMG and other leader to cover the exit hexes. A firelane, Flak FP and a squad were able to lay enough fire and resid to stop a Finnish HS rush to exit. With the last HS breaking in the last hex before exiting, the Finns came up 1 VP short to hand the SS the win. I was sure from mid-game on my SS would not pull it off. Good game.

The Flak halftrack was too weak against IFT, only fired once, it was knocked out by 2 Finn squads adv fire.
Should have focused on the frontline, I deployed too many in the rear to intercept Finn reinforcement. Actually Finn supermen moved very aggresively, and their MTR even CH and took away one 658 SS squad! On Turn 3, my little frontal force was wiped out.

The Finns are large and nasty - but even with all the SS tricks - victory on the road was easy for them

Tough fight in the woods. My SS held their ground and repulsed Dan's Finns. The 20L Flak-wagon did its job and the Finns were forced to concede on Turn 4.

Germans lost the AA halftrack to a sniper right away, but diced the Finns while they attempted an uncoordinated attack

Interesting game, as you have to defend up front to start with to stop the T3 victory conditions. I then managed to fall back without taking too many caualties....Even though the Finns generated THREE heroes to one German... :)

Finns bulled their way up the middle while reinforcements crept their way forward. They thought they had the MMG-manning squad captured but he managed to sneak away with the 8-1. Adding insult to injury they rallied back, battle hardening and gaining a hero in the process. What looked like a Finn breakthrough turned into a tenuous situation. But their next turn the mortar obliterated the stack with a 3KIA, putting the Finns back in the driver's seat. Meanwhile the meat chopper broke it's gun, managing to slink away from some point blank fire unscathed. A couple turns later they found some nuts and bolts to put it right again. By this time the Finns had hit their CVP number and were on the retreat. The Germans came at them hard, wiping a few Finns off the map and bringing the game within distance, but a key break of the 9-1 and his accompanying squad ended their hopes and they conceded.
