The 84th Infantry Division had recently arrived in Europe from the United States and moved into the line in early November but were dolled out piecemeal. The "Railsplitters" were finally formed as a full unit late in November just as it was decided to attempt another assault on Lindern. Previously, Lindern had been assaulted from the southeast. This time the "Railsplitters" would try from a different direction. This time the men were asked to run 1,500 meters over open ground, jump a wide anti-tank ditch in front of the town, and then run another 500 meters into the town. The 2nd Battalion was the lead unit and they were to jump off just before dawn. Travelling light so they could move fast, they carried with them nothing but their weapon, bandoliers, and three bars of chocolate.
Attacker: American (1st and 2nd Battalions, 335th Infantry Regiment, 84th Infantry Division and 40th Tank Battalion)

Dan's Tigers mauled the snot of out me. All four Shermans destroyed by a single Tiger, while the other one dealt death to my infantry. I managed to get into CC for the final two locations and won one, but a concealed 2-3-7 in the final one survived the CC to give the Germans the win. Not a fan of this scenario, which feels scripted to create the last turn death charge.

Americans suffered light casualties getting across the open and once under cover took advantage of the heavy rain to get up close. The American tanks lurked under cover until the Tigers left and then got behind the German defenders for encirclement. An American hero and a lot of firepower wrapped it up for the US.

I got very lucky with both my reinforcements coming in on the first turn. I got my tanks in a postion that forced the Tigers to run the gauntlet. I was lucky to take out 1 Tiger with a side shot and the other with a rear shot on the Tigers turn of entry.

The first of two tries at this scenario. Matt as the Americans launched a charge across the open ground on the right (East) flank. I got some good hits with the random residual fire, so he decided to risk running his 9-1 leader and three squads through a -2 fire lane. I rolled snakeyes - a 2KIA result! With only about half his force intact and almost all the Germans still hidden, Matt conceded on turn 1 and decided to try again!

The second of two playings of this scenario. This time the Americans took the cautious route through the buildings on the left (West) side; a slower route, but they got to the woods line virtually unscathed. From then on, it felt as though there was very little the Germans could do against the vastly superior American firepower, as I gradually fell back through the VC area. Luck was mixed: I managed to knock out all four of his M4 tanks, but my infantry just couldn't pass any MCs until it was too late. I conceded on the final turn when I had no unbroken MMCs left.
We concluded that we were not fans of this scenario. If the Americans play it properly - as Matt did this time - it seems very hard for the Germans to win.

This is a great scenario, highly replayable, great tournament value, so many choices for both sides.
The chit pull system for residual is a game within the game, and I love totally HIP set ups.
Situation seemed totally lost for Germans, then during last american turn the german berserked a leader and HS with MMG into the heart of american lines, situation looked grim for American, then a Sherman evoided one PF and SMed the MG nest and bypass freezed the other german building.
American squad stormed the buildings and couple of CC ensued, 4:1 -1 and 3:1 + 1:2 , One german HS survived and Fred won the scenario.
Highly recommended.

German win. Solo. Loved the scenario. A lot of interesting little bits. Going to always be a dicey affair...but enjoy it!

Interesting SSR to generate random fire made this one a unique experience. Unfortunately the Germans do not have enough to slow the Americans very much. The Tigers caused some mayhem but too many Americans to stop.
