Overview:

SS-Obergruppenführer Wilhelm Bittrich was determined to encircle the British in Oosterbeek and prevent the Polish 1st Independent Parachute Brigade from reinforcing the British north of the Neder Rijn. At 0800, near Westerbouwing, Oberleutnant Artur Wossowski's men were mostly new recruits with little training but had the support of converted French flamethrowing tanks. Their objective was a steep hill with a café at its summit, overlooking the ferry crossing at Driel. The new recruits were about to meet up with the Red Devils, perhaps not the ideal opponents for their first fight. The battle was fierce and just when the Germans seemed to gain the upper hand, the Red Devils counterattacked.
Attacker: German (Wossowski Bataillon, Hermann-Göring Division Schule, and Panzer-Kompanie 224)
Defender: British (B Company, 1st Battalion, The Border Regiment, 1st Airlanding Brigade, 1st Airborne Division)

2025-10-25(D) Jason Nichols vs Hugh Harvey German winA very close call, going down to the final CC on the final turn. Despite having superior morale the Brits seemed to break at every opportunity and eventually ran out of places to rout to. I managed to destroy one tank with a PIAT but the hero was then cooked by the second Bis. I probably set up a bit too forward. Overall though it was an enjoyable scenario and one that would present differently each time it was played.
2025-06-28(A) S. Slunt vs Tim Osbourne German winAt the end of the game my opponent admitted that he has miss read my setup area. My Germans pretty much steam rolled over the charred bodies of the victims of the Flame throwers. I sent One Bis around the far side with 3 squads to mop up any body trying to route. With the requirement to remove any 1 squad GO or not I took all everyone prisons to prevent the British from LCing away
2025-05-05(A) Andy Bagley vs Neil Brunger British winSorry, don't rate this one. Unless I'm missing something, I can't see how the Germans can defeat a competent defence without an extraordinary amount of luck. My opponents defence was certainly competent: he sat back one hex from the hilltop, which meant that I couldn't see anything from lower levels and got blasted at point-blank range as soon as I moved up to level 2. He also covered my attempt to outflank him by sending units round to the west side of the hill.
I managed to flame a couple of British squads but then it just took two PIAT shots to wreck both of my tanks (hero firing a PIAT at a large-target tank can hardly miss). The Brits also have higher morale, are stealthy, and can win by having a MMC (doesn't even have to be good order) on any hill hex on/south of row N, not just level 2.
I eventually managed to reach the hilltop in the south, but then lost two CCs where the odds were slightly in my favour, at which point the defenders considerably outnumbered my forces, so I conceded. Not a scenario I can recommend.
2025-03-03(A) Jon Jaramillo vs David C British win3 hrsGood scenario. My attacking Germans tried to sneak the AFVs and a few high quality troops around to the east edge to take advantage of the cover provided by the woods. The rest attacked from the southwest and south with no cover. Big mistake on my part as I ended up getting everybody broken and then lost half of them to CR and FTR. So, in the end, my attack came completely from the East. One flametank got taken out by a piat shot. On the last turn, I needed on of those turns where everything went perfectly. I ended up breaking most of his forces but I missed against a concealed full squad that I would have had to eliminate in CC with him having concealment and a 6:4 advantage and then another full squad passed a NMC with nobody being able to reach him for CC or even put anymore fire on him. That was the ballgame, he was going to have at least 1 unbroken squad equivalent on a hill hex. Good game.

2025-02-17(D) Larry Rohlfing vs Fen Yan British win
2025-01-30(D) Claus Jakobsen vs Peter Albrechtsen German win
2025-01-03(A) Stefan Fiedler vs Håkan Nilsson A German winGood and fun scenario. The German needs the balance. I attacked cautiously in the center with mainly conscripts. The rest attacked from the south and in turn 2 through the southeast wood. The tanks flamed almost every turn. Keep on mind that the piats must be placed on map as soon as the owner leaves the original setup hex. I lead agressively with hs taking chances to search, bump, defenders to maximize flamingo by the tanks. As soon as he piats where localized I started to flame any units in range from point blank. The German needs to be aggressive and take his chances as well as preventing Brit reinforcements to reach the hill hexes.

2024-10-31(A) Eric Partizan Eric vs Chris Hofland German win
2024-10-20(D) Bob McKenna vs Mike Pucchio German winHard for Brits. Germans rolled uo the hill. British held for a little while Poor luck with PIATS 4 shots all missed by one. Tanks torched unitsm Brits isolatef ay 3 spots. Turn 5 saw 1 British 1/2 sqyad locked in meleecwith 3 German squads Other units DM and off hill. British relief group faced wall of Germandms and tanks. Ended top of turn 6. Fun but all 3 games at LIASL 10 20 24 meet ended in German wins
2024-09-27(A) Dan Best vs Kermit Mullins British win2.67 hrs
2024-09-27(D) Kermit Mullins vs Dan Best British winBritish defended at level 2 and forced the Germans to come at them into the open ground killing zone. British Hero knocked out both Flame Tanks and the German assault on the left and center was pushed back and then mopped up leaving only the 9-1 and the assault up the hill on the right. The British were able to hold the Germans for the win.
