Overview:
Assault gun crews were highly trained, elite artillery units assigned to provide close fire support to the infantry. All assault gun crews were volunteers up until 1944 and had proven in pre-war trials to be more accurate gunners than tank crews. In addition to close fire support, they also provided additional anti-tank capability. On the second day of Barbarossa, a German infantry unit was behind schedule in securing its objective, a Russian village near the Bug River. An assault gun platoon was sent forward to provide the necessary firepower. After the platoon leader conferred with the infantry commander, the Germans launched their coordinated attack. The assault guns preceded the infantry into the village, firing at targets of opportunity as they presented themselves. As they rounded a corner, they were faced with a Russian heavy tank. . .

2018-05-22(A) Jeff B vs Pierce Mason German winI wonder how many games actually use the two flanking boards? There is time to use them but, for my part, I chose to attack straight up the gut. Even without multi-levels, there are a lot of building locations to control (41 to be exact) and neither side has much to spare. Once the Russian tanks came onboard German maneuvering was even more limited. This made for a rather static midgame that felt like a Red Barricades CG. Despite only having one good order tank, momentum shifted to the Germans when the middle tank of the Russian platoon fell into a cellar. A very good Turn 6 saw them increase their lead to 24:17 and the Russians felt that was too much to overcome so they conceded.
2017-10-28(D) Kermit Mullins vs Dan Best Russian winTough fought scenario. Dan's initial drive has his Stug's out front without infantry support. I was able to take down two with some assistance when one of the Stug's malf'd its MA. Dan came up from the pond, which surprised me, so my Russians had to quickly move to meet the threat. Dan's boys were thrown back and slowed down enough to give the Russians a win. Dan's mortar and last Stug got three critical hits in the same Prep-Fire phase of Turn 5, that nearly took my Russians out of the game. A win by the skin of my teeth.
