Overview:

Time was running out for the Germans surrounded in Stalingrad. On December 12, the LVII Armored Corps launched Operation Wintergewitter (“Winter Tempest”), the offensive to relieve VI Army. Spearheading the drive was the veteran 6th Panzer Division, equipped with an entirely new allocation of AFVs. Driving north from Koteinkovo, the Germans easily cut through the Soviet 51st Army. On the morning of the second day of Wintergewitter, 6th Panzer reached and crossed the Askay River after capturing a bridge at Zalivsky. Driving forward with all speed, the lead elements of the division entered the village of Verkhne-Kurnsky in the late afternoon, held by the powerful Fifth Shock Army.

2025-01-27(A) Eric Partizan Eric vs Douglas Leslie German win
2025-01-27(D) Douglas Leslie vs Eric Partizan Eric German winA disaster from start to finish for my defending Russians. Eric rolled a Panzer adjacent to my concealed ATR HS on Turn One. The HS kept concealment and held fire with the intention of trying for a DI shot in the next PFPh. One snake eyes followed by a dr of 1 later it was vapourised without firing a shot. Eric conducted a textbook assault against Russian infantry that was powerless to do any damage to the enemy armour. My three T34s then
arrived on Turn Two. They fared no better than their infantry colleagues. The first went down to a defensive fire shot by a MKIV. The second found a good HD position in a wadi and lines up the MK IV that killed its colleague. It missed its bounding fire shot and then broke its MA in the next turn. The third scored a hit against a HD MK IV which turned out to be a dud and subsequently broke its gun with an intensive fire shot. At this point I decided to call it a day.
2025-01-26(D) Rich Weiley vs Andy Rogers German winCanCon 2025 - Round 4
2023-09-06(D) Kevin Duval vs Dwayne DuvalD Russian winRussians managed to neutralize all the attacker's vehicles, thus preventing the needed firepower to push on to victory.
2023-09-06(A) Dwayne Duval vs Kevin DuvalD Russian win
2021-12-14(A) Shane Pask vs German winI was plagued by equipment malfunctions (75* malfed twice, disabled second time, PzIII malfed both MG on one roll - CMG disabled, BMG fixed) but Russian tactical blunders kept me in the game. The Russian sniper remained silent until the last turn despite several opportunities then killed my sniper and broke the MMG HS. However this left me with enough troops (including the 9-2) to ambush and eliminate his last squad on the last roll of the game.
2021-04-21(D) Simon Staniforth vs Russian winNot much you can do initially as the Russians hanging on to Concealment seemed the best plan given German firepower. T-34s once they arrive mainly hide at the back of the village “come and get me” although I’m able to push one forward and get HD in P5. Takes out a PzIII and a squad. Germans lose another squad / ldr in CC despite their FP advantage and ultimately concede being short of the necessary time and men to clear the victory area
2021-04-21(A) Andy Bagley vs Simon Staniforth Russian winSimon played this very well, as he says retaining concealment (including two T34s) and falling back to the rear of the village. I deliberately played aggressively, but with only 3.5 squads to begin with, and the Russian sniper playing havoc in the early turns (my 9-2 leader was lucky to survive), I never got the momentum I needed to clear the village in the time available. Russian T34s are superior to their German counterparts, so I didn't dare move into their covered arc, and trying to get round the back would have been too slow through the wadis. Numbers suggest the scenario is pro-German, but I can't hep noticing how many of the reports below mention lucky German DRs!
2021-02-02(A) Jeff Wright vs Tom Jazbutis Russian win
2020-09-24(D) Bob Schaaf vs Barry Grabow Russian winDown to the wire. Late report. Details fuzzy. :-/
2020-06-21(A) Oliver Ahrendt vs Moritz German winVery good szenario. German win in the final turn and final close combat vs. a concealed Russian squad.
The Germans have to make ground before the Russian T-34s enter and use their halftracks wisely.
2019-05-17(D) Jeff B vs John Malaska German win3.25 hrsA boring initial defensive position for the Russians as they watch the German armor storm on without much of anything to stop them. The only thing to do is hold onto concealment as long as possible. Unfortunately for me, my opponent probably averaged 3.5 on his IFT rolls to strip about half of my force's concealment by the end of Turn 2 (and killing 1.5 squads). I did manage to flame a loaded HT with my reinforcing armor. The next turn saw another HT go down, but we traded immobilizations. With a deficit of 2:5 tanks, that was a trade-off I could ill-afford. at the start of Turn 4 I knocked out another two HT, but his immobile tank got two lucky shots on my only mobile AFVs and killed them both. Without tank support, it was only a matter of time before the Germans made easy pickings of the Russians.

2014-11-07(D) Ian Morris vs Pete Phillips German win
2014-08-18(A) mark watson vs Ken Knott German winThis is a fun, slightly BFPish, tournament sized scenario. Ken's dice were firmly against him, allowing the Germans to eliminate all but one squad and all his tanks (the final one on Allied Turn 5). Glad to have finally put this one down.
2013-10-11(A) Richard Jenulis vs Kurt Berger German winASLOK 2013
2013-08-27(A) Richard Carter vs Luke Sineath German winDespite some stout initial defense in the village, I was able to surround and ultimately breakthrough the infantry defense. I won the tank battle w/ a lucky APCR shot and was able to swarm the other tanks and take them out. Great Scenario
2012-10-27(D) Paul Legg vs Tom Jackson German winIntensive Fire 2012
2012-10-26(D) David Ramsey vs Miles W Russian winThe Russian tanks arrived at the right time to almost destroy every German tank.
2012-09-09(A) Steffen Knippel vs Ron Levreault German winI diced Ron. He started counting my 2 and 3 DRs - he conceded in the bottom of the 3rd inning when I reached a dozen. Otherwise, it could have been a much closer scenario. I'd play it again.
2011-08-27(A) Tuomo Lukkari vs Teemu Lukkari Russian win
2010-12-28(D) Steve Bowen vs DD German winRussian infantry fell apart in town and the tanks couldn't get through in time. Careful attack by the German won the day.
