"The Fortress of Toledo" -- On July 18th, 1936, as Spain broke down into Republican and Nationalist ideologies, some cities fro both sides became surrounded by their enemies. Such was the case of Toledo, where Colonel Moscardo, leader of the local insurgents, refused to surrender to the overwhelming loyalist forces. Confined to the area of el Alcazar, a huge stone construction, Moscardo organized the defense around this strongpont, turning it into a fortress as well as providing shelter for Nationalist families. Downtown, thousands of milicianos supported by regular artillery regrouped after several failed attacks, determined this time to storm the Alcazar, which had become a Nationalist symbol.
Attacker: Spanish Republicans (Elements of Anarchist and Communist Local Militias)
With conscripts breaking left, right, and center, the push into El Alcazar is one that is one the edge of breaking the morale of the officers in charge. While the militias suffer, the anarchists have made their way into the rear of the building, although subsequently breaking the defenders may be a bigger ask than they can fulfill. OBA support was withdrawn immediately following two straight red chit draws.
Edit:
By the end of the Turn 4, the defender capitulated and conceded the match. A very active sniper broke two crews and a squad, and a Nationalist Hero was killed in Melee. The turnaround in luck, mostly due to the sniper, made it near impossible for the defender to prevent the attackers from getting inside the building and going for as many VP as they could with building control. Very swingy, and not a victory I enjoyed.
