Overview:

While the Red Army was hammering at Pest for over six weeks, the inhabitants of Buda were still preparing for Christmas festivities, albeit subdued ones. On Christmas Day, however, they were surprised by the sudden appearance of Russian armored reconnaissance forces at the Janos Hospital, less than two miles from the Royal Palace. A company from the 1st Technical University Battalion was the first unit to clash with the Russians in Buda.

2024-07-16(A) Ron Garcia vs Darryl M. Hungarian winPretty vanilla game. Just take/defend a lone building in the back of the playing area. As the Hungarians, I didn't do anything special. The T-34's were set up to interdict the Zrinyis, but probably slightly too far forward. I was able to get squads in PF range and took a bunch a potshots. I took some losses, but I bagged both tanks by turn 2. This freed up the Zrinyis to freeze and interdict the Russians. I lost two of the tanks due to Street Fighting, but they did their job. This allowed me to run up a bunch of squads to the west of the victory building and eventually force my way in. The Russians were a bit spread out, so I was able to easily have an advantage in squads in the building in the end.

I think this one favors the Russians. If they keep the T-34's back far enough to avoid the PF's, their mere presence alone will slow everything down. Couple that with a strong fallback strategy and the Hungarians should run out of time. The one saving grace for the Hungarians is the +2 broken side morale. This means even broken conscripts (due to ELR break) have a good chance of returning quickly. In fact, without this special rule, I think the Hungarians almost stand no chance of winning. Overall, there is really is nothing about this scenario that says "play me". I'd say you could safely skip this one unless you absolutely have to play all the official AH/MMP scenarios. You won't be missing anything if you do.
2022-12-29(A) Vic Lauterbach vs Ben Lootens Russian winBen's excellent setup that included T-34/85s in stone buildings stymied my attack. I got some SMOKE from the AGs, but crossing the I hexrow road and a bloody fight for building J1 still cost me one AG and a lot of squads. By the end of GT3, I didn't have enough GO MMC for a second attack on building H1 much less a push for VC building B2, so we called it a solid Russian win. Well played by Ben, but my two-prong attack left both forces too weak. This one calls for a very skilled attacker.
2021-10-13(D) Kevin Duval vs Dwayne Duval Russian winRussians held steady in the VC building.
2020-07-19(A) Alberto González Ramírez vs Javier G. Russian winVery tough for the Hungarians.
I made a very bad use of my AFVs.
2014-11-16(A) leo zhu vs Erwin Lau Hungarian win105 Guns are not useful for me. T34 in buildings make a lot trouble. However, Rus made mistake and be beated by Hug.
2013-12-06(A) Miikka Sohlman vs Matti Holsti In progress
2013-11-01(A) Juan Garrido vs Solo Hungarian win
2013-06-17(A) Andy Beaton vs Jonathan Kay Hungarian winRight down to the last turn, Hungarians won by fixing a broken 105 and getting a hit on an IF shot to break just enough Russians to win. For the record, I was also very lucky with my PF shots.
2012-10-09(D) Martí Cabré vs Lars Nordström Russian winVery exciting game. Hungarians pressed hard and lost a tank to CC Reaction Fire. Using lots of vehicular smoke they rushed the forward defenders and made it to the victory building on turn 3. A 43M fell on a cellar, another one burned and a T34 fell to CC. Each side had one last tank, with malf'd MA. Infantry approached the victory building for all sides, HMG spitted fire until a sniper broke its manning squad! Finally in a last turn full of residual fire, smoke, close LOS checks a last decisive CC and even a HOB with an heroic hero, four Hungarian squads and two leaders remained in the building with four Russian squads and a leader. The Hungarians need more, so Russian victory.
2011-08-20(A) Jeff Waldon vs Frank Tozier Hungarian winFtF-Short in your face scenario, use the SMOKE young Hungarian!
2010-08-04(D) Keith Colins vs Denis Dimick Russian winFun Scenario, down to the last couple shots.
2010-06-08(D) Andy Beaton vs Russian winFun scenario, might be a bit tough on the Hungarians
2009-06-06(D) Michael Rodgers vs Andre Escobedo Russian winChallenging for the Hungarian.
