Overview:

Elements of the German 294th Infantry Division held a line with a series of strong points, with the 429th Regiment defending the village of Bairak. Just after dawn, the Russian 169th Division's artillery opened fire on Bairak to soften up the defenses. Shortly thereafter, the 680th Rifle Regiment's 3rd Battalion made its assault on the town. They established a toehold, but help was needed. 1st and 2nd Battalions followed up to reinforce and exploit the 3rd Battalion's gains. The German garrison was forced to withdrawal under pressure. A rear guard covered the Germans while the remainder of the main body pulled back.
Attacker: Russian (Elements of the 680th Rifle Regiment, 169th Rifle Division and 2nd Battalion, 84th Tank Brigade)

2023-04-25(A) Simon Staniforth vs MA Russian winA couple of tricky LOSs that the German player hadn’t seen meant the Russians were able to take out the Panzer IIIs early and this allowed the T-34s to get into the “back field” and encircle / cut rout paths. A T3 HW with all the Conscripts broke the German position around the W2 victory building leaving 3 turns to take Z1. Plenty of AFV freezing allowed the infantry to move up and the remaining German Units were eliminated T5. No doubt it would have been a much closer game if the German Panzers were in play for, longer. A very enjoyable tourney size scenario which is pretty balanced on c25 playings so far
2021-10-12(A) Tony Fermendzin vs Steve Boro German winSee Steve's write up below. Scenario provided some really interesting options for both sides. The Russians seemed to have a lot to do in this one, and it always felt like they were a little behind the clock. I think I could have done better with the tanks. Really enjoyed the game. Thanks, Steve.

(VASL Log)
The Germans opted to defend along the main North/South road, and fall back to the two victory buildings. The main Russian attack came in the middle and along the South end. In German turn 1, the Panzer IIIs attempted an enthusiastic counter attack on the KV-1, along with a hardy 2nd line squad that joined the fray in CC against the KV. The result was a destroyed PZ III and an eliminated 2nd line squad. The 2nd PZ III was able to maneuver long enough to live another turn. The Russian reinforcements entered on the north edge, but were met with accurate defensive fire. The 5-2-7s and their leader had a tough go of it after that. The Russian infantry broke the German southern flank and moved across the road in force, but the German AT gun destroyed the KV1 with a side/hull shot. The Russians kept the pressure up, winning multiple close combats, pushing the remaining German units towards the southern victory building. In Russian turn 4 DFPh, the 50L AT gun scored a CH on a T34. The gun was malfunctioned and the crew eliminated by the last remaining T34 on the next turn. The game came down to the Russians rushing the victory buildings and forcing close combats in all of the contested hexes despite effective German defensive/residual fire that chipped away at the attacking units. The first CC roll did not go in favor of the Russians, securing a German win. A very enjoyable scenario that could have swung either way.
2020-12-17(A) M T vs R.S. Russian winI played the Soviets and lost my KV-1 very quickly to the hidden AT Gun, after which my Platoon moving T34s managed to dispatch one of the PzIIIs with a point blank shot. Then the dice gods decided to intervene and my opponent lost his remaining PzIII to an MA Malfunction + Recall and his AT Gun to a 6,6 on an Intensive Fire TH roll. After a sniper shot took out the German 8-1, breaking a key defensive group in the process, and with a horde of Soviet infantry approaching the VC buildings, we concluded that there was nothing to be done for the Germans and called it a game on Turn 2. An interesting scenario, this time turned by the vagaries of the dice rolls.
2020-09-30(A) Pascal Boileau vs Samuel Macari German winA very fun scenario. German AFVs were destroyed at the end of turn 3 and the Russian assault progressed well until turn 5. The last turn was the bloodiest with many casualties on both sides. The climax was attained during the final decisive CC... DR < 8 Russians win, DR > 7 they lose... and I lost !
2020-09-30(D) Macari Samuel vs pascal boileau German winVery tense game, violent by the end. Won on the last CC through a 1vs3 odds. Very fun scenario.
2020-02-19(A) O Ramaille vs Russian winThe German Panzers IIIH were caught by surprise by a sudden shot from a KV1 and the appearance of T34-41s. The German still held the line preventing the Russian an easy advance into the city. The defenders tried to stop the Russian tanks in CC, but were held in melee. The Russian assault moved forward and surrounded the defenders. With some efficient wins in close combat they prevented the Germans to retreat from Bairak and eventually took control of the whole city. A clear Russian victory.
