The Russians stubbornly clung to their bridgehead along the Don River near the town of Uryv, located south of Voronezh. Successive attacks and counterattacks could not eliminate this thorn on the western side of the river. Once more the Hungarians prepared for another all-out assault. A sizable tank force led by the experienced and highly decorate Captain Laszlo Naklary would attempt to take the small town of Storozhevoe by storm.
