Two T-34/85 of Sr. Lt. Tokarev and Lt. Krainov were hidden in ambush, 1.5 km from the main forces of the Batalion.
In the morning, after air reconnaissance, twenty Panzers including Tigers and Panthers and accompanying German panzer grenadiers showed up. The Russian tank crews allowed the Germans to come closer and at the distance of 500 meters opened fire. As a result of this combat, fourteen German Panzers were knocked out (8 Panzers by the crew of the Sr. Lt. Tokarev and 6 Panzers by the crew of Lt. Krainov). The Germans retreated with heavy casualties. Lt. Krainov, gunner Komarichev and loader Djaparidze were awarded the Gold Star of the Hero of the Soviet Union.
