War Without Mercy	Fun scenario where I came unstuck by completely misreading the defensive set up. There were so few units covering the exit option that I assumed that Eric must have gone for the HIP group option and that they were lying in wait to ambush the Russians if they went for the board edge. As it transpired, Eric had misread the card and was defending the wrong edge! The Russians accordingly attacked into the teeth of the German defences and had two Tiger tanks and assorted elite units whose arrival I could look forward to on turn four. Lots of crazy stuff happened. For the Russians, one leader went berserk while trying to rally another leader and the other leader decided to join him in the suicide charge. For the Germans, Eric managed to pull off the unique feat of malfunctioning both of his onboard guns with their first shots. In the end, the Russians couldn't clear the victory zone and I conceded on the penultimate turn.	Dougban

Far From Home	Nationalist forces roared forward to attack the critical bridge near the Republican village. Republican armour counter-attacked, ignoring the Nationalist armour and concentrating on the infantry. Alas, too much ground had been given up and the Nationalist, although losing the bridge, was able to withstand the counterassault and won by VP quite handily. Given that all buildings on the maps score VP at game end, the Republican should forego a passive defense in the first turns and make efforts to threaten the Nationalist village at the south end of the board. Commando Schenke	I felt overwhelmed as Russian. I made poor setup decisions (Commissar outside the fortified building, a lot of squads in the first line of defense) and once overpowered, I prioritized keeping concealment and falling back. By the end of Turn 4, only a handful of Russian squads remain, and the Germans made their way easily in the building. No Russian units remained with a full turn to spare.	mestravis
"...Things Are Hot!"	I almost pulled off a win as the attacking Germans at this one, but not quite. I got 5 squads in the final building but a few broken and at one good order American squad managed to get upstairs, denying me the victory. Matt and I both had crazy dice, malfing numerous vehicles and SW. I got two critical hits (one on the Sherman Jumbo, the other on a Bazooka team behind a stone wall), without which I probably wouldn't have made it as far as I did. Germans need to have everything go right for them to get the fourth building, and my elite SS melted from American firepower at least a couple key times. Germans need another turn to pull of a win in this scenario, in my opinion.	Agoldin

Mageret Mixer	Plenty of smoke and WP from my tanks at the start allowed my Americans to close with the Germans quickly. I had some good fire attacks with my vehicles and passed a few key morale checks of my own so that by the end of Turn 2 many of Jim's Germans were broken and hiding in stone buildings while I had gotten in the outskirts of the town. The Rally Phase of Turn 3 was critical and ended to Jim's advantage, as he managed to rally his DM squads and thereby double his effective fighting strength. I didn't get the self-rally I needed and it went downhill from there. A sniper Recalled my CE 105 Assault Gun. His Mk4 'woke up' surrounded by my bazooka-toting first line squads opened fire in his Prep fire phase and managed to break all three of them. Although by this point I was in two of the victory buildings my relatively low FP attacks failed to dislodge the couple of LMGs and his AT gun from the key position in the T1 building. Meanwhile my 6 morale attackers couldn't withstand his return fire and broke with every attack. I could see I wasn't going to get across the street against his firepower to my front and a Mk4 running around behind me, so I conceded.	Agoldin

Black Devils of Bure	Another great scenario. The Canadian optional OB choice is a very difficult pick. Read the VC and see Gary's note on Gamesquad. I had Neil on the ropes but didn't grok the VC perfectly and gave Neal a chance to get the win. Excellent scenario.	SGT Mac
Good Night, Sweet Prince	As the German, I was aggressive and lucky in getting across the field quickly, and I did so by turn three, but there I should have put on the brakes and moved more deliberately. Fortunately, my good rolls and his bad rolls saved me. He, however, gets style points for setting buildings on fire, which laid down drifting smoke. Good game and opponent.	EJ1

Hill 621	Started out fun but the overwhelming number of Russians really killed it in the end. Russians went heavy with human wave and were able to close the gap on the German line very quickly. Russians manages to prevent almost all OBA attacks. By turn 8 the Russians had taken all 5 locations of Hill 621 and had significant forces closing in on the few remaining Germans hunkered in on the other hill. The early human waves and loss of effective OBA really lost it for the Germans.	feralhuntsman

Italian Crescendo	This was my last scenario of the tournament . Can't remember the name of my opponent sadly, but we had a great time. My Italians did well on the right however, the cavalry faltered. Heavy Metal Noise	First scenario of HW26. Gary and Jim chose well for the first round. A classic Russian/German heavy metal, heavy weight slugfest. I'm now 0-3 lifetime vs Bret and with good reason, he's a great player. I made 2 critical errors. 1) I set my infantry to far forward of the gunline and they were unable to withdraw back to safety with a zillion 1/2 tracks buzzing around and 2) fire discipline, usually my strong suit. I killed 2 kings, 1 with an FB and the other with an ambush shot from an IS2. The choices given the players are very important and will greatly influence the outcome of the battle, give it immense replay ability. Highly recommend.	SGT Mac
Beyond the Pakfronts	Scenario Design seems off on this one. Basically 4 Germans STUG can reach the Russian backfield and then have 3 turns to hunt down the 6 Russians tanks that should easily find a parking spot in the Russian rear within the huge VC area. Tanks are double VC by SSR. The Russian and German Infantry are mostly irrelevant since that tank battle will decide everything. The 6 German SPW won't have any impact on that tank battle unless maybe they can hunt down the only Russian AT gun which MIGHT be able take out some STUG.	nekengren

Brush Fire	Really enjoyed this smal Game - very tense I felt that Maurizio really showed me how to counterattack despite the flame tanks etc It started with a solid push and the AT guns being dispatch by the frontal atatck and a flank attack from behind but.. Maurizio took advantage of the weakness caused by a prolonged Melee and retook both guns and dispatched both tanks with inexperienced crews Excellent to see such tactics even though I suffered the loss	macrobosanta

LZ S	The American gliders came down unscathed, and the Germans began to break in the first AFPh. I managed to do some damage with the guns, but malf's and Casualty MC's for the crews added up quickly. It was over by end of turn 4. That being said, it's an cool scenario that I'd play again. There are interesting choices for the Germans on set-up, and the Americans were forced into some tough tactical positions. They have some awesome firepower, though, and it will quickly tell.	ubertripp

The Hedgehog of Piepsk	Germans setup all on board 3 and spread out near each VP with two squads covering the large building. Russians split into three forces, one for each board entry. Initially the Russian open seemed poor as the southern flank took longer to get into action and initial moves didn't afford an opportunity for human wave. While the was the case, The Russian eventually won a very hard fought battle, taking the last building (the large one) on the final turn in a close combat battle between heroes, leaders, and squads upstairs with Germans pinned down. The final German turn was unsuccessful in running a squad back into a building as they were pinned down during their dash to one.	feralhuntsman
Pomeranian Fury	Attack went well from the start as I was able to reach the north corner of the defensive wall in T1 and start to turn it to get behind. Germans pushed along aided by a hero who took out a T-34 in CC and then aided taking the large north building. 9-2 and 548 with FT worked down the building line clearing several buildings before the 9-2 went heroic and then was killed. Russian luck was below average throughout while the Germans seemed to just get what they needed from the dice. We both enjoyed this but a good defensive setup is key for the Russian as they are somewhat fixed for most of the game.	nebel

War of the Rats	Return leg of the revisiting after one year. The Russian set up all forward, which led to a rapid collapse against the strong German fire. At the end of Turn 3, reinforcements hadn't arrived and the Germans controlled two buildings, with the third having only a Russian 447 and a Conscript HS to defend it. Foreshadowing Ruin	175 Logs - as a VASL game a large one! The Germans were not too forward allowling them to loose little in teh first few turns and I choose the KV85 and SU152 reos A three pronged German attack allowed the division of Russian resources The German keep the heavy tanks back and shot at a distance- this reduced any signficant resitance points - the German infantry slowly moved forward and pushed in multiple spots to gain eventual advantage at two to three points spreading the Russian very thin across the line of resitance Only on last turn did he risk the charge and thus I had limited ability to stop all the VC attempts	macrobosanta

The Nut Lane Blockhouse	A brutal frontal assault by Marines supported by Shermans against Japanese in stone buildings. Progress was difficult until the Shermans forced their way into the buildings. It was costly with one destroyed and one immobilized tanks. But the infantry was able to move forward. The Japanese defenders were still active until the last turn with the Marines closing the distance and entering CC. In one of the buildings, a reduced Japanese crew ambushed the marines at 1:7 odds and killed them all. Japanese victory in this very nice scenario.	lt_steiner
Camp Nibeiwa	I used an Italian set-up from an AAR blog. The Italians primarily set-up on the southern hillocks. The Italian tanks charged the British infantry on turn one, after the Matildas all prep fired into the dust. Favorable DR resulted in quite a few broken British squads, but the Italian armor was all gone by turn 3. On turn 4 the wind increased to heavy, removing all smoke and vehicle dust. Even through the Italians were mostly shooting into the wind, the loss of vehicle dust gave the HMG several chances to go on a ROF spree, leaving 2 British leaders KIA and two others broken. The British were able to regroup eventually and move forward on board 29 using the wind as cover, and on board 28 using the front hillock as cover from the HMG and artillery pieces behind it. The weak northern defense was overcome first, as many Italian weapons succumbed to their low breakdown number. Around turn 7 the wind changed again, back to normal, and the vehicles were able to shield the advance on the hillocks. Thanks to the dust and entrenchments, most Italians had to be cleared out in CC, though 5 MMC were forced to surrender. The last CC ended on turn 9 while the tank leader went crazy and broke the last two units on a ROF tear of his own.	Guru Bob

Failure to Assimilate	The American attack was supported by mortar indirect fire and quickly a first critical hit killed a SS leader. A killer stack with all 666 and MMG forced the SS to duck and retreat allowing the US troops to advance and conquer some buildings. The panzers were a big threat but another CH from a mortar immobilized one for the rest of the battle. Despite the US troops dropping in quality by ELR, they keep coming back to fight. On the contrary, the previously killed SS leader would have been very helpful to rally the routed SS troops. The Americans achieved victory in the last turn with 17 building hexes controlled. The SS were able to capture two hexes back but that was not enough. A very tense scenario.	lt_steiner

Suxy Beasts	Outstanding scenario! German had net 1VP at the start of game's final (French) player turn. I was able to KO a PanPan that, while it went in motion last turn, failed it's radioless TC. My recently manhandled 37L KOed it for 3VP (crew survived). In my prior advance phase, a 248 advanced into a hex with an abandoned 25LL and recovered it in the final Rally phase. At game end, it it added 4CVP for a net 8VP win (40-32). This was a VERY tight, exciting game! Most recommended!	Houlie

Spartan Style	Typical Korean War scenario...charge and die unless the Greek player rolls poorly...9-2 with an HMG and an endless buffet or rate of fire and the ridiculous impulse movement of the Communist Chinese...just not my kind of fun ASL. I don't enjoy slaughter scenarios. This one is balanced though and both sides can win. But not my cup of tea.	grumblejones
The Curtain Goes Up	Ruweisat Ridge #1 – The Curtain Goes Up Fred and I decided to head for the desert, and we chose to try this scenario from a “historical” module. The comparison between the first version and the second version in my possession was merciless. Not only had the map been substantially changed, but the position of Ruweisat Ridge in relation to the entry areas of the opposing forces had been heavily altered, while scenario length and forces remained unchanged. On top of that, the SSRs in the version we played had also been massively revised. The level-2 hill which is the focus of the victory conditions, originally completely bare, had become a six-hex trench complex; and what had once been British air support had somehow turned into German air support. In short, the usual CH mess, with changes that completely distort what may well have been the intent of the original designer. In very broad terms, the scenario revolves around the Allied infantry, heavily entrenched around the crest of the Ridge, trying to hold their position. The Axis forces, on the other hand, must drive them off and, above all, exit 30 CVP from the board edge through which the British reinforcements enter. Both sides have OBA. My plan was to use OBA to smash the fortified position, bring the infantry forward to a safe distance, and unload them from their vehicles — meaning far enough away that the vehicles could not easily be knocked out by the Allies’ light anti-tank weapons. I had organized a group of four halftracks carrying enough infantry to satisfy the exit conditions, plus a six-AFV armored group built around the 75L guns of the Marder and the Pz IV F2. Their job was to keep the British tanks under control, while my smoke-capable tanks and the other Pz IIIs and PzIV supported the infantry assault. I also intended to use the two 75L guns mainly to smoke the hill in support of the infantry. Unfortunately, things did not go quite as planned. For the entire scenario I never managed to establish radio contact for my OBA. Even so, a coordinated AFV and infantry attack succeeded in taking the trench complex, and at a cost that was, all things considered, acceptable — more tanks than infantry. Unfortunately, the Allied 57L then went on an absurd run, maintaining ROF seven or eight times and managing to tear apart my AFV battle group over the course of just two turns, despite range, SMOKE and Vehicle Dust. That left the halftracks facing two Crusaders with only air support to help them. For three turns they performed a sort of death dance across the desert, and at times they even gave the impression that they might somehow pull it off. But on Turn 6 a lucky shot from one of the Crusaders destroyed a halftrack. At that point, not only would I have had to save the remaining three, but I would also have needed to exit a Pz III by running it in front of the guns of the Grants and Crusaders. That was close to impossible. Since I had no desire to keep playing merely in the hope of catching such a thin chance, I conceded. The desert is a peculiar ASL environment. It was Fred’s first time with it, while I was coming back to it after a fairly long break. We had fun, but certainly not thanks to CH, nor particularly thanks to the scenario itself, which proved far too static in the way it was designed. In practice, rather than really fighting for control of Ruweisat Ridge, the Allied player’s only real concern is blocking the Axis exit. The result is a scenario that is not especially enjoyable. All Available Weaponary	I sent about 1/4 of my troops through the western woods with two tanks, 2/3 up the middle with the KV to take the first building, and the remaining to tanks and riders swinging around in the east through the wooded road. Turn 2 saw these guys drive up and unload behind the woods, their main purpose being to make sure the brushy hill was clear of guns. My boys in the west crept stealthily across the open field while the tanks drove slowly through the light trees. In the center they continued to pressure the stone building while sending tendrils to check out the next hill. Some wind had kicked up but I didn't expect this to come into play. Turn 3 saw me clear the 2nd level hill (in the process spotting a concealed gun at the crossroads), while his buddy made his way to the woods west of the hill where some Germans had pulled back a couple units to protect. He was definitely hiding something there. My men in the west made their break toward the field and orchard to start to clear the way for the tanks, while the first building was finally captured and some lovely German prisoners rounded up. These would come in handy in multiplying the troops for the inevitable human wave. By the end of Turn 4 my men in the west had cleared most of the concealment terrain, the ones up north most of the woods, while those in the center set up for a human wave to assault the rowhouse. Still only the one gun had been spotted, and that one was yet a mystery (though suspected to be the 88L). So this brought us to the last half of the turn, with the human wave not quite taking the building, and the tanks all driving into VC position and staying in motion. I was correct about the 88L, which did its share of damage before overheating. The INF gun was just down the road from it, protecting the rowhouse. While the 50L was in one of the few patches of woods just north of the road I hadn't been able to clear. It was a disappointment when it only managed to knock out one T34, before overheating to IF. Some endgame shenanigans by the Germans saw a DC placement and numerous CCs vs the AFVs fail, and the final count was 5VP for the Russians. had expected this game to be cat-and-mouse, but it was much more boring than anticipated as it was way too much of a bug hunt, with the end feeling gamey. I knew, unless I wanted to risk an early suicidal human wave, that taking the buildings would not be an option, and thus the plan from the start was to protect the tanks and just drive them all into the VC area on the last turn. This one would be much more interesting to play as the defender and, despite the Russians so far being favored, I'd want the Germans every time.	buser333

Gavin Take	Attacker (at a beginner level) against a seasoned defender. The outcome was logical but the fun was quite high. Using a westerly route, Ostberg’s force came close to the bridge and to EE17, arising the hope to win the game but a good shot from the opponent wiped it out, but hey, at turn 6. The Gavin-Maloney force tried to support the advance of the other force, but it had to push through the Germans, which tended to concentrate. By doing this, the 10-3 leader got injured.	DOTT_68

Timoshenko's Attack	This was like playing three games at once. While the German side getting to split forces and set reinforcements was a nice touch, wasn't much of a fan with the boards not connecting. Russians struggled on the city board, taking several losses from well placed MGs. The open board found Russians rushing quickly causing Germans to reinforce early. Assaulting Tés	Germans lost a ton of halftracks...but all the Soviet tanks were knocked out with all four Jagdpanthers roaming the battlefield. German 9-2 eliminated the Soviet 9-1, 4-5-8 w/50 CAL and after that the buildings began falling.	grumblejones
Sting 'em at Zingem	Looks of options for the Germans to enter. Germans had 2 Squads, MMG, LMG and 9-1 on the bridge side. The reinforcements split and came in as a quazi pincer attack.	slunts
Currie's Favor	My 10-2 went berserk on the second turn and of course took a squad with him. I managed to lay smoke in front of their 88 before the berserkers had to charge across the road to take their 81 MTR, but the mortar crew reduced the squad as they attacked. They eliminated the crew in CC, but then the 10-2 and HS were out of position. They did manage to get as couple shots off with the MTR, but captured use and inexperienced crew made the DRMs too much to stay there. It all came down to the final turn. I needed all 6 VC locations and took 5 easily, but needed to push him back out out of one without losing anyone myself as I was 1 away from the CVP cap. I assault moved a leader and squad next to the location where he just had a HS. If I make it into CC, I have a great chance at winning. But he manages to get an NMC on me and my squad rolls boxcars, casualty reducing and giving up the final CVP. Very fun finish to a fun game.	sushidog

The Publications page has had a minor face-lift and I've amended the scenario recommendations to exclude scenarios recommended that have the same name as scenarios you've already played before.

Site updates!

There's some updates to the scenario pages and the "My Page" that help find fun scenarios to play, based on other player's recommendations.

On the scenario page, you can see other scenarios that have been rated highly, based upon user ratings who have rated the initial scenario highly. (It's all a bit complex but it does try to quell the problem of good, popular scenarios outranking lesser played scenarios that might have a higher correlation).

On your "My Page" I've updated the games played and the publications owned tables to be a little more useful, and made an effort to speed up the rendering of the page, too. There's also a scenario recommender on there that takes into account scenarios that you have rated highly, and the input of other players - and checking that you haven't already played that scenario before (no promises on scenarios that have been released multiple times though, currently!)

All sorted now - apologies for any inconvenience - the pack scaling has now been corrected. You can buy the pack from the MM Tournament 2025 publication page.
