As Luck Would Have It	I went all in for the exit by the German right. It worked, but I screwed up the exit part by rushing. I forgot to calculate if I could exit enough in one turn. When I realized that I could not, it was too late.	mtrodgers99
With Iron Will	A convincing Russian victory on the last German turn. I the German defender had knocked out or driven off almost all the Russian tanks but had little answer to the horde of elite Russian infantry which swarmed my remaining position in the last stone building and won the game for him. Steve's 8ML guys kept passing MC after MC while my infantry -- who had displayed 'iron will' in the first couple turns -- melted away and marched off to the PW camps in Siberia with little complaint. I recommend the German balance of the HMG and adding a CVP cap on the Russians to give the German a better chance at winning.	Agoldin
Along the Vistula	Two scenarios in one, divided by a river. Lost both tanks trying to be clever with VB sleaze. One destroyed and one immobilised. The Polish defence was well structured to delay the German advance, forcing advances through buildings and woods. Had a couple of good results with close combat but by the end of the Polish Turn 5 I had no chance of exiting any VP's and no chance of capturing all the buildings required so I resigned. Esprit Combatif	Great scenario! Lots of replay value. The French bid was 23 (22 is recommended on the scenario card as a starting pooint), which turned out to be too low IMO, but that wasn't obvious at first. That bid acts as a sliding CVP cap for the Germans, but CVP they earn also make a difference. By Turn 5, I had lost too much. The Germans have to figure out the French defenses on the move, but still have to keep up a steady pace. Lots of German AFVs but lots of French AT weapons, including MOL. I would play this one again as either side.	asl458
The Beasts of Neustadt	I feared this scenario was too pro German. It went down to the final American movement phase. One Jagdtiger on the hills and 2 of the three victory locations under American Control. Final attempt to reach the third victory location failed. Burning wrecks everywhere. The Jagdtigers accounted for a couple tanks...but Panzerschrecks and Panzerfaust did most of the killing.	grumblejones

Tidying Up	Mike and I played this at ASLOK this year. We called it a draw after realizing we screwed up the level of the main building, but still had a lot of fun and he's a wonderful opponent. Look forward to our next meeting.	SGT Mac
Sainte-Barbe on Fire	Game ended far too quickly. German units/fire lanes expertly penned in the French attacker but they averaged a ridiculous 4.91(!) on 11 MCs. The final straw for the German was a Hezter CH that random selected the 9-2 leading 1.5 squads. All passed. The lopsided dice were a downer as we were looking forward to the block control VCs.	Houlie

Ambitious Assault	There might be just one way for the Allied to win this scenario, and this was it: with the Allied balance, and both the Italian HMG and MMG malfunctioning on the first turn and never repairing. Seriously now, even then it could be hard for the Allied forces if they just wait for those 6+3 or 8+3 shots to be effective. Here, the Allied player saw the opportunity and, through some tactical moves (risky, but less so without the only heavy firepower from the defenders) took things to close combat. Because of the VCs, staying in Melee would not win the game for the Allied, but the difference in FP is so brutal that the odds were always against the Italians. In the end, all forces but one DM Italian squad were obliterated from the board. (VASL Log)	mestravis

Devil's Hill	Americans just walked up the hill and smacked me around. Half squad flooding...terrible die rolls on my part...two critical hits with the 75* INF...11 and 10 on the effect. Americans easily passed the 1 morale check and then snaked the 36 factor shot on my crew...killing them instantly. Dan surrounded my 9-2 with the HMG and I broke the HMG and failed to do anything to the Americans. Gave up after that...	grumblejones

Consolidation	The German INF Guns were completely ineffective, not even one AR landed on target the entire game, enemy or otherwise. Germans did quickly cover the hill but one US squad with MMG & 8-1 leader held their ground the entire time. Surrounded on all sides but the German's dice started to fail (>= 10 at least six times in a row) with devastating consequence.	Kydder
Gavin Take	Jim and I played this at our DC Conscripts Game Day, resulting in a narrow win for the Americans. Jim set up his defending Germans forward where they fell to Gavin's 10-3 fire direction. Jim quickly pulled back to the vicinity of the exit area, where he set up interlocking fields of machine gun fire. Jim's Germans threw back my paratroopers a couple of times resulting in the loss of at least two squad equivalents. It wasn't until repeated shots by a Gavin-directed base of fire finally took down one of two MMGs that I was able to make for the exit. Even with that it still came down to the dice -- I had better dice than Jim did and was able to exit the minimum required to win. Highlight of the game was a German HS going beserk and charging Gavin and his men. I had never seen a 24 -5 attack before. Suffice it to say, the HS died quickly. Fun game!	Agoldin
Task Force Sparks	Played solo for playthrough video. I wanted to try an American attack on the right-hand side, where the Germans only set up a squad in xU3. The German gun was emplaced in yB2 and took care of one tank and one squad. I think the Americans need one more turn, on top of some luck, to win this scenario. The VCs mean that they have to cover a lot of ground breaking or displacing Germans: at minimum, the cluster of buildings in xDD3-DD4-EE4, the NW corner of the village in yH3-I2-J1-J3, and the area beyond the woods (around yD7-E8-F8-G9). All of these are places where Germans can set up with FP to spare. The surviving American tank tried to venture into the SW corner but was bogged even though they were careful to avoid the +3 bog check DRM by spending a whole turn. Even so, with one more turn it would've been close. Board x was secured, and the NW corner of the village in board y was about to fall. Still, a very fun and exciting scenario, great for learning ordnance and vehicles.	mestravis

Bruecke des Gebirgsjäger	Enjoyable scenario. Not always certain my designs will play well, but this one went down to the final German Close Combat. Both side were shredded...18 CVP inflicted on the Germans and 12 CVP inflicted on the Russians. Both SU-76's knocked out by Panzerfausts...but each shot casualty reduced the squad firing the Panzerfausts. The AT gun immobilized and SU-85 and a Panzerfaust took down the other SU-85. All of the trucks were destroyed. The VASL dice bot provided enough critical hits for both sides to make it a fun back and forth. The immobilized SU-85 would get the game winning break on the Germans beside the bridge and that allowed the Russians to move freely onto the bridge. The Germans tried to recover one of the bridge hexes on the final turn and a 2-4-8 made int into CC with the Russian 9-1 and a 5-2-7...but would be KIA'd in the close combat. Fun game. My son got his first win in our VASL series.	grumblejones
Huegel oder Bauernhof	Not sure the scenario works well...but the VASL dice bot gave us both an equal measure of MALF's and Snakes, which left every AFV knocked out or immobilized by game end. German infantry were the key and overran all Victory locations on the final turn.	grumblejones

Oh, It's Only Those Old Things	First playing of the scenario - face to face using VASL on shared computer. Fun scenario...my Germans were successful in pushing along the Russian left. Russian LMG snake the result roll on a kill attempt on a halftrack knocking it out. Snakes on both sides made for some exciting moments. 85L AT Gun knocked out the 250/9 half-track, but the crew would be eliminated by small arms fire. One of the three Panzerfausts would be fired and knocked out MKIV. The Russian 9-1 and a 4-4-7 went Berserk after snaking the the self rally on the final Russian phase. If they could take the adjacent victory location from a German half-track and 4-4-7 with an LMG...they would win the game. It was not to be...they were KIA'd as they entered the hex for the German win. Played better than I had imagined it would.	grumblejones
Dewey's Scratch Force	This scenario was over and done very rapidly. My son's defending Americans were initially successful in breaking some of the advancing Germans on the left flank, but the center and right flank were quickly overwhelmed. One STUG would be lost to a critical hit by a bazooka...but then the other STUG's managed to obliterate the dug in Americans. By the end of Turn 2 all three victory locations were occupied for the immediate win. The Americans might be a little too weak in this one.	grumblejones

The Marco Polo Bridge Incident	First game with Chapter G nationalities for the defender. Halfway through the scenario it looked like a landslide Japanese victory, with 3.5 squad-equivalents captured, lots of broken Chinese conscripts, and both tankettes in the battleground. The Chinese radioless armored car could never move once it stopped due to task check failures. The only thing not going in Japanese favor was that their light mortar didn't have any smoke or WP. And of course, time, which is always against the attacker. As Chinese, I knew that it was going to be hard to keep the Japanese out of buildings once they were in the area, so I prioritized wrecking the tankettes to increase the VC requirement. After a lot of effort I could wreck both of them, and with some HtH Melees lasting longer than the Japanese would have wanted, in the end only 6 buildings were controlled by the attacker, out of the 14 needed (12 base + 2 tankettes wrecked - 2.5 squad-equivalent prisoners). Guerillas In The Mist	We played the 3-player. I was the Belgians, Scott was Italians, Stew was SLaC. I had left over WWI French FT-17s with 5 MP, nearly useless on heavy jungle board 36. Stew and Scott engaged each other early, and Stew managed to eliminate 3 Italian squads. Meanwhile I was quietly searching jungle, swamp, and bamboo for Stew's hidden units, and forcing Stews partisan into a vice between my green Belgians (pretty much CX and/or TI most of the game) against Scott's Italians. We were afraid we'd never find Stew HIP units, but we finally stumbled into them. When that happens the game becomes a free for all...most standing at the end winds. Stews forces were devestated. Scott only had 4 of 8 starting squads left, and my Belgians were unscathed. We called it mid-way through turn 6, with a decisive Belgian victory. Fun and chaotic search through the jungles of the Congo.	Neal Ulen

Wildcat Strike	Came down to the wire, my tank hunter heroes let the emperor down and the only shot my AT gun got away missed so the American tanks ran amok. Still came down to a 2 point difference so I feel I didn't embarrass myself at least.	aiabx
Kraut Corner	Too many Americans to hold off even with balance. I got a tank w OBA and encircled and broke the 9-2 with a squad plus 2 crews. Dice then went the other way and I couldnt get anything else to work. Opponent did an excellent job keeping composure after that first 2 turns.	nebel

Pratzen Crossroads	CSR 47L AT Gun went on a rate tear on Turn 1 Defensive Fire and knocked out the MIV and MKIII. Then the ATR got a critical hit on another MKIII. After that, it was a bloody fight, but once the CSR tanks came on board that was it for the Germans.	grumblejones
Ambitious Assault	Player with Allied balance. The Italian setup was full forward towards the American entry edge. Their HMG got several stretches of brutal ROF, firing more than 20 times before finally malfunctioning. In the Italian first turn, it single-handedly obliterated two American Elite squads and their 9-2 leader which were up in the hill (with only height advantage TEM, but still...). Even then, the Americans managed to break the low-morale (and low-ELR) Italians and by the time of the (early, due to balance) British reinforcements, things were looking pretty good. In a brutal déjà-vu, the Italian HMG broke a British leader and casualty-reduced two squads, one carrying the MMG, none of which could be rallied in the remainding time. Eventually, as noticed often here, there are simply too many Italian units to break. Even though it felt like a great attack by the Allied forces, in the end there were four unbroken Italian squads (two of them in Melee, two in Good Order). Von Arnim Unloads	I doubt very much the Axis troup could win this scenario with no number superiority less SW support, and only 6 turns (at least 4 turns to cross the distance to the victory area, pass through French defenders and 2 turns left to make all the defenders not good order). It clearly looks like one of the most unbalanced SK scenario published to date. Even the balance could not save this one.	lt_steiner

Wildcat Strike	Action from the start. It went all the way to the wire when I scored a Critical hit on a Japanese Full squad in the building. I was able to roll up and get just enough point for the win Good game	slunts
Feelin' Froggy	The first Australian turn spanned 20 logfiles which gives some indication of the slow progress made. Despite the advantage provided by the FT tank it was difficult to advance against dug-in Japs where approaching infantry had to survive 16 and 20 FP attacks before they could return fire. Lots of breaks on turn 1 slowed the advance. Rob had spaced his defenders out so the Aussies had to cover a lot of ground. In the end I ran out of time.	Nicho11

The Governor	Second playing of this scenario, this time taking the defending Vichy French, and another loss - although again it was a very close game. I deliberately left the northern side relatively weak, as I thought that I could shift my forces across if the Aussies attacked there, which they did. However, I underestimated how quickly they could reach level 2 and infiltrate my positions, which meant that I quickly lost the few defenders I had there and had to give a lot of ground before I could coordinate my defence. This left me significantly outnumbered and the Aussies were able to push through for the win on their last turn. Some different DRs might have changed things, but overall I can't complain - well played by my opponent.	Andy_Bagley
Panthers under the Tree	Americans won due to amazing dice bot rolls. 57L AT Gun knocked out the Sherman, and 2 x Panthers in the first Defensive Fire. Snakes definitely gave the Americans the edge throughout the game. All 4 Panthers were eliminated by Turn 4 for the immediate American win.	grumblejones
Into Vienna Woods	First experience with alpine hills and with pine woods for the attacker. Following advice from here, I prioritized taking some positions in the trenches by the time the Russian reinforcements arrived. This was successful, and the cavalry took some loses, including a blazed SU-85 (which generated smoke on the hill because we got a mild breeze!). At the beginning of the last half-turn, all level 3 hexes were actually controlled by the Germans, but what a difference who wraps up the scenario makes! The OT Russian vehicle made a run to the hill, reaching one of the empty hexes, and also a lot of Russian infantry advanced into close combat against weakened Germans (which didn't matter, because just the OT vehicle occupying one hex would make the Germans lose). Very enjoyable scenario, the alpine hills and pine woods mechanics make it extra interesting.	mestravis

Another Summer's Day	This is a rough one for the Americans for sure. Be prepared for Americans to overwhelmed and losing units. They shouldn’t go toe-to-toe vs Germans. Watch your rout paths. And don’t forget… just one 7-4-7 with a BAZ with LOS to VC road will win the scenario	toddgrx

War of the Rats	The Russian defense set up full forward and could hold the attack pretty well, but eventually the central and right-hand building were under German control. Although the German MMG and 9-2 leader set up in the left-hand side, that assault was slower, and once the (late) Russian reinforcements arrived by Turn 5, it was not enough for the Germans to seize that building. I can only think that if the reinforcements had arrived earlier, it would've been even more difficult, but still the crux would've been on the left-hand building.	mestravis

Hill 253.5	Exciting Game with Germans with some lucky shots to shutdown the Russian MMG's in T1, which gave the Germans an early assist. Well placed Wire, and Mines took out the 2 Halftracks which were pushed forward as sacrificial units. The Russian Sniper was active and killed the Leader controlling the Radio which stopped German OBA early on, with the Germans subsequently capturing the Russian radio before their OBA proved too effective. Stukas arrived late, and Russian FB's arrived the next turn. Stukas were able to take out one KV, as well as the reinforcing Leader with Assault Squad hiding in a Wooden Building, as they sought to drop their bombs before being jumped. Russians went straight into dogfight 3 on 3 as we both rolled good for numbers. Unbelievably the Stukas won the Dogfight forcing 2 Russians into Recall for the loss of one Stuka to Recall. At this point the Russians resigned holding the last 2 Level 3 hexes, but with only one Leader, one KV and not much infantry the German untouched tanks would likely take full control with the 3 turns remaining. Cibik's Ridge	I put many MGs and good leaders up front to ambush the columns. Got 6 CVP in the first Japanese MPh and so had a third of the needed CVP. But the Japanese keep coming, and the Americans have to fall back to and up the hill while trying to extract CVP from the Japanese every turn. I was at 19 of 21 CVP needed as we started Turn 8. The Japanese needed one more hex, but even if they took it, I was going to extract at least two more CVP, so we called it. Great scenario.	ubertripp

Released from the East	The aggressive central assault was successful and at the end of Turn 4 the Russians controlled the central building. The tactical reserve fought intensively for the right-hand building but in the end needed to win two Melees, neither of which was resolved by the end of the game. On the left-hand side, the attack was weaker and only on the last turn could the Russian force a Melee with worse odds. End situation: central building controlled by the Russians, two melees in the right-hand building and one in the left-side. (VASL Log)	mestravis
Suxy Beasts	There are very limited options for the German attack. The light woods mean that concealment is almost impossible. The PFZ make it easy for the French to fire on the Germans as they approach. The Germans might have a chance to win on CVP if the StuGs keep their AP.	mtrodgers99

Black Devils of Bure	Gave Germans balance which wasnt alot of help. I took the PIATs and hero. I set up heavy on my left. Attack went the long way around on my right. We got heavy snow in turn 2. Right flank fell back and delayed long enough that it became impossible for the Germans to get enough building hexes. ASLOK XL	nebel
Rail War	Definitely a fun scenario. Opponent and I thought it was hard on Russian to get all the VP needed. His FT got 5-6 shots with several K/ results but only 1 ammo car.	nebel

Busted Flat Footed	Only one Chaffee caught up to the wagons before they exited. The Germans had two crews catch up to that tank. They destroyed it before it destroyed any wagons, although it tried.	mtrodgers99

The Bardia Waterworks	So long as the Artillery doesn't hit its mark, on the second fire mission, the Allied troops don't have the means to break from the column movement and you're stuck slowly crawling your way to the waterworks. The Italians managed to give the Brits and Aussies a bloody nose once they finally did start threatening the objective, but the back-and-forth trades benefitted the Italians more, and they were able to maintain control of the buildings by the end of the scenario. It should also be said that the instructions to build this scenario are incorrect and/or incomplete. Several buildings are called to span several hexes despite being single-hex overlays, the roads are convoluted in how they are written down and you'll probably have to take some liberties when building it. A new publisher in the shop!

Le Franc Tireur have joined the ranks of third party publishers who will be selling digital packs on the shop.

Their first publication in English (and some French!), LFT #8, is now available via LFT #8's publication page and features both the 90+ page magazine and 10 scenarios, for $24.

LFT are trialling the service and if there's enough interest he will be adding many more publications, so if you can support them either through words of encouragement or by purchasing the pack, we have more digital content to look forward to!

Minor updates

The scenario page now has an Order of Battle editor to ease the pain of editing scenarios and slight update in the way scenarios are linked by name to scenarios in ROAR.

The Publications page has had a minor face-lift and I've amended the scenario recommendations to exclude scenarios recommended that have the same name as scenarios you've already played before.

Site updates!

There's some updates to the scenario pages and the "My Page" that help find fun scenarios to play, based on other player's recommendations.

On the scenario page, you can see other scenarios that have been rated highly, based upon user ratings who have rated the initial scenario highly. (It's all a bit complex but it does try to quell the problem of good, popular scenarios outranking lesser played scenarios that might have a higher correlation).

On your "My Page" I've updated the games played and the publications owned tables to be a little more useful, and made an effort to speed up the rendering of the page, too. There's also a scenario recommender on there that takes into account scenarios that you have rated highly, and the input of other players - and checking that you haven't already played that scenario before (no promises on scenarios that have been released multiple times though, currently!)
