Overview:
The Yugoslavian army began an operation in late November to split Croatia in two. Under Tito, the Yugoslavians had been attempting a major encircling operation of Army Group F in the Balkans for several months. After the loss of the 15th Mountain Corps headquarters in Dalmatia, the Germans chose the Knin area as a last stand defensive position and stationed close to 20,000 troops in the area. The Allied-equipped Northern Group landed on the Balkan mainland on the night of November 23-24 and steadily pushed inland.
