Overview:
"The Ultimate Treachery" -- At the end of February 1945, the French intelligence services named the day of the planned Japanese attack on all the Indo-Chinese territory as the time of the celebration of the Tet Festival. In spite of this, the persons responsible didn’t seem to be worried too much and the surprise was complete when at 2015 hours on 9 March, the French garrisons were attacked. In Hanoi, the Japanese troops, who had trained meticulously to be able to seize a number of different locations simultaneously, seized several public buildings and the local headquarters, catching some French officers at their desks or at home. Briere Island barracks at the Citadel of Hanoi was attacked at 2010 hours from the south-east.
