Overview:

"Massacre in Paradise" -- The German pressure around the Dunkirk defense perimeter was strong. Among the assailants was the Totenkopf Division of the Waffen-SS. It was made up of members of the "Death's Head Groups", guard units from concentration camps. The formation of the division aroused the hostility of the Wehrmacht, which refused to equip it. Himmler finally obtained Czech cannons and machineguns for the division. On 27 May, the division isolated the soldiers of the 2nd Royal Norfolk Regiment to the south of the hamlet of Le Paradis. The British entrenched in a large farm and underwent shelling and assault by the men of 2nd SS Regiment, who began taking heavy losses. The defenders resisted throughout an hour, then, encircled, exhausted and short of ammo, they surrendered. One hundred prisoners were then lined up against a wall and shot down by the machineguns of 4th Company.

It was looking pretty good for me as the Brits until the dice turned and I lost two squads halfway through the game while attempting to pull back to my next line of buildings. Winning a CC and my sniper going into action helped keep me in the game but it wasn't enough to make up for my inability to rally my broken units. Stephen won two CCs on the last turn and easily put me away by taking 23 building hexes. The key as the British player is to score some hits before the attacker gets into the town, preserve as much of your force as you can, while you trade ground for time to run down the clock for the win.

At mid-game, I thought I was lost (80mm mortar CH in building and sniper has killed my best leader) but in the two last turns, bad luck was sticked with Serge DR's whereas the Bristish were lucky enough to score 2 KIA and other #MC during the last DFF leaving the Germans units scattered..

2018-04-12(A) Jeff B vs Ed Donoghue German (SS) win5.75 hrsHard to say how this one should've played out as the Brits had some terrible dice in the beginning. That, and the fact that they probably tried to pull back a couple times when they maybe should've stayed and tried to duke it out, leads me to believe that they should hold a slight edge. The big mortar is really only of much use the first turn or two, and that is most likely for smoke, though I did have time to disassemble mine, move it up, reassemble it, and lay some key game-winning smoke toward the end. Unless somebody sets up in the woods the meatball throwers are probably useless. German morale will certainly help the cause, though you wouldn't have guessed it based on my lousy rolling. In the end the Germans had grabbed 20 points with one turn left and there were only a few British units left: one in smoke, one in the middle of the street, and one in melee. So the Brits wisely conceded.
