Gruppo Nord was in trouble. The retreating Italian and German troops had reached the town of Arbuzov on December 22nd, but Soviet troops soon ringed the hills on the town's outskirts. These troops protected the mortars, artillery pieces and rockets which rained down steel on the surrounded town. To stay in Arbuzov was certain death or capture. From the thousands of Italians in the vicinity, most not combat-worthy, their leaders gathered up as many men as they could to launch a last chance attack. . .
Two CHs vs a Russian 76L and a foxhole paved the way for the Italian advance. The snow fell heavy for most of the game, but cleared on the last couple of turns making an easy Axis Prep Fire and Movement against the broken Russian defense. A couple of notables beyond more than the Axis fair share of 2s, was a Russian conscript and 7-0 leader eliminating a tank in CC and Paul ended up with a berserk conscript in a foxhole that the Axis had to dig out for the win.

Jason lost both his panzers early. Without these in support, the Italians didn't have enough FP to break the Russian defenders

Enjoyable scenario with the possibility for Italian banzai.
Initially we gave the Germans the balance based on the scenarios record.
The scenario shifted from a good start for the Russians with a destruction of the PzIII and the German malfunction and later destruction of their mortar. Snow intensified and eased up movement for the Germans. Once the Germans reached began dominating several hills the snowing stopped which punished the Russians.
The German 9-2 is also a bas-ass.
In the end, the Germans prevailed with a stable win by the end of turn 5.

No smoke from mortar meant running into heavy fire which tore up my attackers and I could not push the Russians off the big hill. Good mix of units and toys for both sides had a good time.

I wasted too much time and resources on the little hills, my attack on the big one was completely stopped. Overall perhaps a little tough on the Italians.

Constant Italian Banzai's really added to the fun factor. Heavy snow really made it hell for my Russians. Started on turn two ad never went away. Both in it at the end.
