Russian troops launched a surprise sortie against the village of Arnautovo which was held by the Italian Valchiese Battalion of the 6th Alpini Regiment and some divisional artillery. To add to the dismay of the Italian defenders, they were also beset by Russian partisans coming from the southwest. The Italian artillery gunners had to use direct fire in their desperate attempt to stave off the Russian attack. . .
Attacker: Russian / Partisan (17th Tank Corps and Local Partisans)
Very exciting game, going down to the last CC Phase. The Russian got off to a great start, with fortunate DRs knocking out my front line, including a HIP gun before it was even revealed! The Russians then swarmed down the southern flank, although they and the Partisans then ran into a hidden HMG and found it hard to climb up the hill. Still, the Russians had taken all of the buildings East of the main N-S road through the village by the time the Italian reinforcements arrived.
From then on it became something of a slugfest as the Italians had to recapture at least one of these buildings to win (without losing any more). They captured one with a risky move round the Russian rear, temporarily captured a second but were forced out, but then lost a further building to a Russian counterattack. The 10-2 leader and a squad made it into another building, but they failed to clear it in CC so the Russians won by the narrowest of margins.
Great scenario.with lots of attack and defence on both sides.

Ben's methodical attack hit my left flank hard and exploited my unbalanced setup. My defense collapsed before I could shift units. Partisans and T-34s prowling around didn't help! Still a solid, fun scenario.

The Russians overran the Italian positions and my AT gun missed six consecutive TK rolls. Then the units covering the Partisans cowered and let them occupy almost all of the map. The Italian reinforcements had to reconquer almost every building, and they overran the Partisans but were stopped by a handful of Russian squads. At the last turn I had the exact necessary buildings to win the scenario but in the last movement the Russians snatched one building for the win.

VASL League game - the dicebot was not my friend. Good scenario, though. I want to try it again.

Critical moment in the scenario was when the Russian rolled boxcars on an overrun vs two reinforcing Italian squads and both survived. Great scenario, lots of movement for both sides. Recommend.

Both sides get chance to attack and defend so plenty of options. Italians suffered with dice and couldn't make reinforcements tell. Excellent scenario - recommended
