Overview:

After two weeks of Operation Barbarossa, the spearheads of Guderian’s Panzergruppe 2 had raced ahead of the bulk of the 4th Army. The infantry units were straining to catch up and had the unenviable tasks of mopping up the growing number of bypassed pockets of Russian units, and providing security for the flanks and the lengthening supply lines. Infanterie Regiment (mot.) Grossdeutschland was assigned to open up the vital supply route R2, where at Kamienka a pocket of Russians troops had set up a block after breaking out of the woods to the north of the town. The 17th (Motorcycle) Company was dispatched to re-open the road, but was ambushed on the way in with heavy casualties. It was clear that a major effort was needed to clear Kamienka.
Attacker: German (Kompanie 6 and 17, and Pionier Kompanie 18, Bataillon I, Infanterie Regt. (mot.) Grossdeutschland)

2018-12-14(D) X von Marwitz vs Michael Koch DrawQuite a large early Russian front scenario in which a German Elite force with plenty of toys has to clear a village. The Russians are plentiful but burdened by an ELR of 2. For the first turns, I did not enjoy playing the Russians as I felt like a spectator. Due to Grain and SMOKE making capability of the Germans, there seemed not much that the Russians could do to against having them close in. So the Russians had to fight a fall back defense. This is quite easily done in the forest portion of the playing area and more difficult on the other half. The issue of this scenario is mainly if the Russians can buy enough time to prevent the Germans from capturing the required number of buildings. At least in our playing, the German CVP cap was of no consequence: The lost one squad equivalent in the first 6 turns but are allowed to sustain 50 CVP. As it was getting very late, we did not play until the end. The scenario could have ended with either side winning. Probably more fun to play as the Germans.
