Overview:
Operation Totalize, Montgomery’s plan to close the northern flank of the Falaise Pocket, was the inaugural action for the 1st Polish Armored Division. Composed of exiles who had been forced from their homeland in 1939, the Polish 1st Armored was hungry to exact revenge and restore national pride. After receiving replacements, the division attacked Kampfgrüppe Waldmüller around noon on the 9th. The tanks of 24th Lancers, supported by attached TDs, were to seize the ground between St. Sylvain and Soignolles with the armored infantry of 10th Dragoons and consolidate the day’s gains.Attacker: Polish (10th Dragoons and the 24th Lancers, 1st Polish Armoured Division)
