Overview:

The British had started their final push to force the Japanese from Burma. In the Northern Sector, good progress was made in the attempt to clear the Burma Road. Sticking to the main trails, the British were getting behind Japanese troops with their capture of Mong Wi on January 6th. The Japanese were compelled to move south with all speed to prevent themselves from being surrounded. A meeting engagement ensued as the British moved out of Mong Wi and thrust towards the Burma Road, only to be met by retreating Japanese.
