Overview:
After the rout of the 3rd Battalion at Schmidt, the Germans did not immediately take advantage of the opportunity to continue the atatck to kommerscheidt. As many as 100 or more straggles from the 3rd Battalion were organized into the defense of the 1st Battalion. Most importantly, three Sherman tanks of the 1st Platoon, A Company, 707th Tank Battalion led by Lt. Fleig, were able to traverse the Kall Trail and make their way to Kommerscheidt.
