Overview:

From their positions in and around an irrigation ditch, the 1st and 3rd Platoons from Fox Company moved forward in fire team sized rushes to attack the tip of the ridgeline in an area that was just south of the railroad tunnel. Covered by machineguns, the assault troops fought their way up the tip to capture its summit. However, there the platoons lay exposed to fire from their left flank, and their assault itself had cost each platoon 25 percent of their men. Fox Company's CO Captain Peters realized that the enemy around him was no mere outpost line and he summoned his 2nd Platoon out of reserve and even ordered his mortar section into the line as well, but the message to the latter was either not properly received or was misunderstood, and Fox went without this much needed additional manpower.
Attacker: American (USMC) (1st, 2nd and 3rd Platoons, F Company, 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division)
