Overview:

The initial goal was to capture the bridges over Maas River intact. Overhead, gliders laden with engineers silently descended on Fort Eben-Emael and the bridges across the nearby Albert Canal. The roar of motorcycles and armoured cars filled the sleepy streets of Maastricht, as reconnaissance units raced westwards, hoping to capture the bridges before the Dutch could destroy them.
Attacker: German (7 Aurfklarungabteilung)

2020-08-29(D) Gordon Jupp vs Derek Cox Dutch winWell, talk about highs and lows....By T3 I was about ready to throw in the towel...My ATR crew was dead, I had lost 2 1/2 squads as prisoners and not even a MC on the Germans...then it all swung, the German left flank attack was completey broken, isolated and eventually surrendered, the ATR was picked up by a squad and took out one of the AC; a MMG took the other!. On the last turn it was a rush for a bridge by the German 9-1 and a squad - leader broke , squad goes berserk and heads for the factory rather than the bridge! A lone half squad makes it to the bridge but in the Dutch T6 is is broken and captured - max win for the Dutch! Bizarre.... :)

We are playing the Campaign, be interesting to see how it devlops from here...
2020-08-06(A) Indy Lagu vs Rob Oler German winAs promised, Rob and I played this again with me as
the Germans.

This time, it was a German win.

As I did, Rob setup evenly across the board with his
MMG a bit further behind.

Here are some differences in our two playings:

I used motorcycles to get my troops close to his first line
of defence, and did not risk any residual. Rob was more
aggressive and we both think it cost him dearly.

When I defended, I made sure to get an MMG across the
canal. Rob had that in mind, but was unable to do that.

Rob had the 75L AA gun; it flamed one German AC, and
that gave me a bit of smoke cover to get to a bridge.

It was a German win. I managed to get onto one of the bridges
in my last player turn. Rob was unable in his half of turn 6 to
dislodge me.

We both like the variable OB, and felt this playing was more
indicative of the way this scenario should go. I gave it a 5 last
time because of the very bad luck Rob had early on that really
scuttled his chances.

My play, initially, was a bit more cautious and it seemed to pay off.

We would both recommend this scenario. I would be happy to
play it again.
2020-08-01(D) Dan Best vs Dave Mareske German win
2020-08-01(A) Dave Mareske vs Dan Best German winEncountering only dummy counters on board 51, the Germans made their way to confront the Dutch defenses on board 23. A slow attack by the Germans whittled away the defenses. A clear win for the Germans, who had some close calls with their armored cars (breaking both MA, getting stunned and getting Shocked) but neither turned into wrecks by the Dutch. The Germans were not able to prevent the Dutch from getting within three hexes of the German controlled bridges.
2020-07-30(D) Indy Lagu vs Rob Oler Dutch winRob (German) pushed hard with one squad on a motorcycle and an AC.

Both got close to the bridge. An ATR shot took out the
AC and the squad was broken after riding out lots of defensive fire shots. The squad was quite isolated and ended up surrendering. Another squad was KIA trying to drive through some residual fire.

Rob thinks he played poorly. I disagree somewhat...he was a bit
too aggressive at first. His options were fairly limited rather
quickly.

I think this one is a bit tough on the Germans. Even though they are all elite, there's only six squads and therefore cannot afford
too many brokies. Plus, the Dutch have 9 (green) squads to
start with.

Perhaps the fact that Rob lost two squads so early is why I have rated this one a 5.

We will try this again next week. The partly variable OBs (common in Lone Canuck scenarios) are very welcome.
