Overview:

After many abortive attempts to push the Japanese back from the west bank of the Matanikau, a large-scale effort was launched. Well south of the river's mouth, three groups would cross and push northwards toward Point Cruz, trapping the Japanese between them and the river. The eastern-most prong was made by the Whaling Group, led by the Marine's patrolling guru, Lt. Col. Whaling, and his hand-picked detachment of Scout-Snipers. The enemy put out a screen to help the balance of their forces evacuate.

2026-01-05(D) Alex Schröder vs Davide Japanese winI had some units on the plateau to stop a rush towards the river and a people along the path, and a very weak force in the jungle in the north west. In the end, I won because I had managed to slow the Americans down in north-west and not enough American troops managed to exit. At the same time, in the north-eastern corner some lucky die rolls managed to stop the rest of the Americans.
2025-12-01(A) Alex Schröder vs Davide American (USMC) winAs the American I focused all my energy on getting to the north-eastern crossing. I remember having some units in the marshland along the eastern edge and the line of sight issues around those hexes where the river leaves the map being super important. I managed to exit enough troops just in time and the Japanese, who had some units guarding the western approach rushed east and didn't arrive in time. Moving in the jungle and in the river bed are both very slow options.
