Overview:

The first Chinese victory in the Second Sino-Japanese War was the Battle of Taierzhuang, which began with the Japanese assault on the city of Linyi. Prior to that attack, the ambitious and aggressive Gen. Itagaki Seishiro's 5th Division had driven Gen. Pang Bingxum's 39th Division into the town and now prepared to annihilate Pang's force once and for all. Bristling for a fight and confident of victory, the 5th Division, hurtled headlong into Linyi, led by battle-hardened infantry, reinforced with armor and artillery. Though outnumbered by the defenders, Itakagi assumed Japanese technological superiority would-once again-carry the day.

2026-02-14(A) X von Marwitz vs Chuck Hammond Japanese winPlayed this scenario as the attacking Japanese against Chuck Hammond, the scenario designer, defending Chinese.
After our thoroughly enjoyable last game, I was looking forward to play Chuck again.

He proposed his scenario design pitting an entirely Elite Japanse force supported by a platoon of three Type 89A tank and a 70mm INF Gun towed in by a Truck against a 1st Line Chinese force of 13 squad equivalents holed up in a village in March 1938. The Chinese are reinforced in Turn 3 by two more Leaders and a platoon of Elite 447s along with two Italian L3/35(i) tankettes with variable entry options. The Japanese Ordnance Smoke making capability is capped, while the Chinese may create up to 3 THH/DC Heroes as if they were Japanese. PTO Terrain is not in effect. The Japanese may enter on/after Turn 1 from one board edge as they please. The objective is to Control Stone Building Locations within the village by game end.

2026-02-10(A) Simon Staniforth vs Richard Webb Japanese winA hard fought win for the Japanese, only taking two of the four VC buildings in their final turn and resisting a limited Chinese counter attack in the last half turn. The IJA is outnumbered 16-11 in squad equivalents and with the Chinese having both Dare Death capability and (by SSR) THH, conserving the Japanese force sufficiently to hold what you have taken needs some thought in this one
