Overview:

In February. the Soviets attacked West Prussia from the south with the intent to get to Danzig, thereby cutting off East Prussia. Sturmgeschültz Brigade 276, equipped with Jagdpanzers, was ordered to retake Belino with fallschirmjäger help. Leutnant Alfred Regeniter divided his battery into two groups, with himself leading four assault guns and Oberwachtmeister Glaumann leading the other four. Both leaders were tank aces. Riding on the Jagdpanzers were the fallschirmjägers, armed to the teeth with carbines, machine-pistols, grenades and panzerfäuste. With them was Leutnant Bracksch, a decorated tank buster, as well as self-propeJJed 20mm Flak-Vierlings. Belino was on a hill and the Germans leapfrogged across open ground to get to the town's edge. Unfortunately, one Jagdpanzer had engine trouble just as they jumped off and was seriously delayed. Leutnant Regeniter took out a SU-85 hiding on the hill in brush. As he crested the hill, he saw about 60 cows near a big house. Among them were Russians. The Russian infantry was firing at the dismounted fallschirmjägers and using the livestock as cover. Leutnant Alfred began overrunning both cows and enemy, with the cows suffering the most. The Germans steadily cleared the outskirts and center of the village. Leutnant Regeniter then took out another SU-85 by the last barn on the southern edge. With that, Belino was secure. Total count: three SU-85s, one T-34/85, one Josef Stalin 122 (destroyed by Oberwachtmeister Glaumann), two 45mm anti-tank guns, and 30 prisoners.
