Overview:
"Point of Support No. 10" - For Japan, which sought to conquer its "Asian Sphere of Prosperity", the Dutch East Indies—responsible for 30% of global oil production—represented a major objective. Aware of the threat, the Dutch reinforced the defenses of their oil fields. They sent a well-equipped colonial infantry battalion—its machine gun complement had been doubled—to the island of Tarakan, east of Borneo. However, the battalion was poorly motivated, as one company mutinied in Java upon learning of its deployment to Tarakan. In any case, on January 10, 1942, an invasion fleet appeared off the island. Destruction began immediately, with clouds of smoke hindering Japanese landings. A series of strongpoints, patrolled by armored vehicles at intervals, formed the main line of resistance in front of the oil installations. At approximately 9:30 a.m., the 146th Regiment attacked strongpoint No. 10, defended by Sergeant Terbrugge's detachment.Attacker: Japanese (146th Infantry Regiment and 2nd Kure Kaigun Tokubetsu Rikusentai, Sakaguchi Detachment)
Defender: Dutch (7th KNIL Infantry Battalion)
