Overview:

Operation Market Garden was in full swing and encountering unexpectedly heavy resistance. Attempts to wrest control of the Waal Bridge by head-on assaults were repulsed. General Gavin decided on a daring river assault to outflank the center of resistance. A mile to the west, the 504th Parachute Regiment was to cross in broad daylight behind a massive smokescreen, advance along the north bank, and link up with other elements attacking across the bridge. . .
Attacker: American / British (3rd Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment / Irish Guards, Guards Armoured Division)
Defender: German (Nijmegen Garrison / 10th SS Panzer Division "Frundsberg")

2025-06-01(D) Jon Jaramillo vs Anthony American / British win8 hrsI took the defending Germans in this one and set up with the conscripts along the river bank to provide some resistance. They were pretty quickly eaten up by the heavy and mortars. Anthony did a good job of getting a lot of infantry across the river by turn 4, 5 and 6. As soon as he hit dry land, I hit him with some OBA but he soon regrouped and begin moving towards the VC exit area. I misplayed the last turn a bit. I had a broken unit that I could have used to block the 1.5x exit road but I routed him away instead. My only shot at 14 VP of units that I could muster was a 2 flat on the dyke. Not enough to do anything. Anthony did a good job of spreading his units around enough where I couldn't move into better position to defend that hex on my last movement phase. I also could have placed my last FFE on the end of the dyke to catch him trying to sneak off the board, but live and learn.
