Overview:

As March 1945 began the Allies still had not captured a bridge over the Rhine. Montgomery planned Operation Plunder, the final crossing of the Rhine for March 23. General Simpson, however, planned to grab any bridge across the river, and much sooner, in order to prevent any organized resistance on the east shore as well as to provide a solid bridgehead for the upcoming operation. The men of the American 8th Armored Division were ordered to attack Rheinberg in an attempt to capture at least one of the two remaining spans over the Rhine in that town. . . .German infantry company defends a key village with armored support as the Americans attempt to seize a bridge over the Rhine. A target rich environment as a lone King Tiger, supported by three guns, takes on no less than 24 US AFVs, including 13 tanks.
Attacker: American (36th Armored, 8th Armored Division, Task Force :Van Houten: and delayed elements of the 49th Infantry Division, Task Force)

2015-03-01(D) Vic Lauterbach vs MA American winIn a fun late-war scrap, the King Tiger held off the initial US drive, but the infantry attack with OBA support was too much for low-ELR German defenders, and US units drove across the bridge for the win.
