Overview:
"Rabbit Hunting" -- The great offensive on Zaragoza in 1937 met unexpected resistance for the Republican command. Franco's troops clung to the ground and sold defeat dearly. In Belchite, and with almost no hope of relief or reinforcements, the last defenders still kept the square of the Church of San Martin, the Command located in the Town Hall House in Plaza Nueva, and some adjoining buildings. In order to gain access to the defense points as quickly as possible, the middle walls of the buildings were pierced with pickaxes or grenades. Every inch of ground was fought for with whatever came to hand, and positions changed sides in hours or even minutes.Attacker: Spanish Republicans (Elements of the XV International Brigade / 153 Mixed Brigade / Tanks of the V Army Corps)
