Overview:
Early in January, the Russians had tried to occupy Margit Island, which stood in the center of the Danube on the northern side of Budapest. At dawn on the 19th, Russian riflemen landed in the north corner of the island and ensconced themselves between the concrete structures of the half-built Árpád Bridge. A German battalion commander sent about 100 men from the Hungarian II University Assault Battalion, along with four 75mm guns, to flush them out.Attacker: Hungarian (II University Assault Battalion and AT company, 12th Reserve)
