Overview:

At Mlawa, the Polish 20th Infantry Division, ensconced behind extensive fortifications and minefields, was able to repulse the first frontal assault of the “Wodrig” Corps – a battlegroup of infantry and cavalry formations. General von Kuechler ordered the 1st Cavalry Brigade to outflank the Polish defenses and encircle the city. Crossing the Ulakowka River east of Mlawa, the brigade had turned west and was attempting to slip past the trenches there when the horsemen encountered their Polish counterparts, the Mazowiecka Cavalry Brigade. The clash between the two brigades is one of the rare examples of cavalry-versus-cavalry combat in the Second World War.

2023-02-07(A) Kevin Duval vs Dwayne DuvalA German winCautious advance, keeping Concealment as long as possible, got the Germans far forward very much intact. The extra 1/2 Turn for German balance saved the day in the end allowing both VC possibilities fulfilled.
2022-11-08(A) Owen Edwards vs German winGood fun, especially as first the rain started falling and then got worse, which gave a very atmospheric feel to the developing situation. There was a good "history learning" element here, too - I liked moving cavalry round for its speed, but never felt all that tempted to charge anyone. (No halfies or brokies were sitting about in the open!)

The Germans got their EVP off on their last turn, and had +7CVP over the Poles, though both were significantly swung by (a) a fortunate hit to break the Polish 9-2, and (b) the 9-2 rolling boxcars and dying on its rally. There's a good tension of the Poles never having quite enough squads of firepower to take out the Germans, but the Germans having to cross bits of nasty ground, whilst the Poles can move around their rear areas on horseback. I did play the starting HIP Poles "back", gaining the bonus squad as well - a forward defence would be interesting another time.
2021-11-17(A) Rick Galli vs Brian Kaschyk German win
2020-06-02(A) Dan Best vs Dave Mareske Polish win
2020-06-02(D) Dave Mareske vs Dan Best Polish winA great little scenario where the Poles have lots of decisions when to fire and when to stay hidden. After the Germans avoided a critical fire lane, the Poles were able to keep most of the Germans on Board 5 thus slowing their advance. Melees were fairly divided and the Poles were able to get a few good shots as the Germans tried for the exit. Good fun with Dan Best.
2020-05-06(D) rene cote vs Mrosberg German win
2019-11-08(D) Andrew Luden vs Rick Luden German winA set up error on my part, and a critical sniper roll (at improved SAN due to German balance) led to a rapid German victory. Can totally see this being a tense and bloody scenario after the explosive start, but when a potential K/3 got erased due to illegal placement an entire flank got enveloped only for the 9-2 to die to a sniper and have his MMG nest break... Turn 3 it was already over... Would replay, but was not enjoyable this time round.
2019-08-28(D) Jonathan Kapleau vs Duenskie, Ron German win
2018-05-15(D) Will Willow vs Fred Schwarz Polish winVASL
2018-02-02(D) Sean Carty vs Amy auf der Springe Polish winLearned a lot about horses, that's for sure! The Germans would have won handily if there early efforts to overwhelm the left flank had been successful. Instead they were stymied. A mid-game effort to slip through the woods straight down the middle was pinched by the Poles, and there just weren't enough men or horses after that.
2012-01-28(A) Andy Beaton vs Richard Hooks German winVery tense, mad scramble to get those last few points off in the face of deadly Poles who roll 12s in key charges. The cav vs. cav was an interesting tactical problem. I made the exit points, but was nowhere near the CVP victory, given a third of my force went down to straight KIAs.
