Overview:
Previously released as "Last Stand on Hill 197". . . On 28 August 1937, the Council of Asturias established at the port of Gijon, declared itself an independent territory and dismissed the supreme commander of the northern army, General Gamir. On 1 September, the Nationalists launched a campaign with their Army of the North. Facing them were the remnants of the 14th Army and the 17th Army Corps, bolstered by twenty-six Russian officers under Goriev. The 'immediate mission' was to 'advance to the west in the double direction Llabres-Ribadesella and Arenas-Cangas, reaching the line of Bedon river from the shore to the town of Robellada' according to General Solchaga's orders.
