Overview:
Four battalions of the 2nd Burma Brigade were tasked with the defense of Moulmein, the 7th Burma Rifles to the north, the 3rd Burma Rifles in the center, and the 8th Burma Rifles to the south. The 4/12th Frontier Force was held in reserve. The Japanese launched their attach from the east on the morning of January 30th and the 3rd Burma Rifles defending the center quickly disintegrated, forcing the defensive perimeter to be pulled back to the ridge overlooking Moulmein to the east. To plug the hole left by the defeated 3rd Burma Rifles, the 4/12th Frontier Force Rifles took position on the ridge supported by the 12th Mountain Battery. At 4:00pm advancing Japanese engaged the 4/12th and 12th Mountain Battery pushing their way up the ridge.Attacker: Japanese (55th Division)
