Overview:

Not long after the successful capture of the Wahlerscheid Crossroads, the sky lit up with the unmistakable signs of a massive artillery shoot. The men of the 9th Infantry were ordered back south to another crossroads at a placate locals called Lausdell. At 7:30 PM on 17 December the silence was broken by the squeak of tank tracks, accompanied by German voices, chatting amicably. The enemy unit passed right by the waiting Americans without a shot being fired. Soon, a second echelon headed south, toward the now-alerted defenders. Panther 135 from the 1st Company of the 12th SS Panzer Regiment was in the lead and promptly struck an A-T mine as it reached the crossroads. All hell broke loose and it was ‘on’, with more Panthers rumbling into action.
