Overview:
Following successful landings, the Shoji Detachment quickly captured the Kalidjati airfield despite tenacious British resistance, while its headquarters unit, including Colonel Shoji, took the nearby town of Soebang at 0500 on 2 March. While the Shoji men took time to celebrate their success by cooking breakfast and cleaning their equipment, the KNIL Mobile Unit (Mobiele Eenhied) under the command of Captain Wulfhorst, counterattacked with tanks and mechanized infantry. Initially surprised by the tanks of the KNIL 1st Tank Platoon, the Shoji Detachment HQ unit and reserves rallied without losing the town, forcing the Dutch to retreat. The remaining platoons of the Dutch infantry then dismounted and tried to enter the town with the support of the 2nd Tank Platoon.Attacker: Dutch (Mobiele Eenheid)
