Overview:

Much to the dismay of the Italians, on the afternoon of September 8, 1943, General Eisenhower made public the armistice between the Allies and the Italian government. The Italians had been playing a dangerous balancing act between the Germans and Allies, trying to get out of the war without negative consequences. That evening, the Germans put into play “Operation Flohzirkus (Flea Circus),” sending the 2nd Fallschirmjäger Division north from its base towards Rome. The Axis was broken forever when the Germans met the first Italian outposts at the town of Mezzocamino, southwest of Rome.

2025-07-02(D) Richard Jenulis vs Brent Morris Italian winWe had some questions about SSR 3 at the start. "Is a unit that passes the TC free to fire thereafter, or does it need to pass a TC each time it fires?" "Is the TC a concealment loss activity?" "If a unit fails a TC in one phase, is it free to take another in a different phases (i.e. fail Prep Fire, is it free to attempt in Advancing Fire)?" "Does a unit need to pass a TC to fire a RoF shot?" etc. Once we got past that, the scenario was enjoyable and came down to the end game.

2022-05-28(A) Dan Best vs Dave Mareske German winDid not go near the Italians for the first two movement phases but still found all three minefields. The close assaulted into the victory building. The last turn the snipe broke the units outside the building and my defensive fire broke the last Italians inside the building for the win. Fun scenario with increasing night rules. Always fun to play Dave.
