Overview:

The Japanese, after landing on the north side of the island, moved to seize Kokoda and the beginning of the trail that bore its name. It led through the Owen-Stanley plateau and mountain range until descending on the southern, coastal plain and the very crucial anchorage at Port Moresby. The ANZACs put up a spirited defense under Lt. Colonel William T. Owens, but had to relinquish the village before being cut off from the trail itself. After retreating south, there was a pause, and then orders from both sides for aggressive recon patrols.

2023-06-23(D) Paul Legg vs Bill Durrant Australian winDouble One 2023 - Mini Round 1 - Another close game. Despite the Japanese going first, due to a mis-step in trail order, the Australians made it to the disputed clearing first. After a number of skirmishes the Australians managed to turn the west flank and get a small force through and up the trail which together with taking a leader in cc tipped the balance.
2023-05-13(D) Rich Weiley vs Dave Longworth Japanese win
2023-03-13(A) Dave Mareske vs Dennis Dowd Australian winFast play and good intro to dense jungle and straying. The Japanese lost some critical CCs and came up short on the CVP losing 2.5 squads to the Australians 1 squad. I think the advantage goes to the side that moves first.
